My three favorites for girls: Artemis, Calliope and Johanna. I also like Amelia, Ariadne, Cecilia, Eleanor and Evangeline. I think these are beautiful, romantic names.Least favorites: Alice, Anna and Phoebe. First two are too common. Phoebe is ugly, it sounds like "phobia".Favorites for boys: Dimitri, Jasper and Matthias. I also like Maxim, Paul, Samuel, Simon and Tobias. They are beautiful without being too frilly.Least favorites: Asher, Cassius, Walter. Asher sounds like a**, Cassius was a traitor and Walter sounds like an old man.

Favorites:Jane- It's so simple, but so elegant. I like Janie as a nickname, but I'd be happy using either.
Veronica- Love it, I'd use it on my own daughter. I'm intrigued by the idea of Ronnie as a nickname.
Natalia- I've always loved the Russian vibe this name has. It works in English as well. Very pretty.Leo- Always loved it. It works in many languages, and the sound is pleasant to my ears.
Maxim- Once again, another Russian name that I love. Although I think in English it might be pronounced MAX-um instead of mak-SEEM.
Asher- Simple, but classy. Will age well.Least Favorites:Ariade- Not a pleasant sound.
Calliope- Also not pleasant. I don't like the -pee ending.
Evangeline- Just don't like the biblical vibe of this one.Ambrose- Sounds a bit feminine to me. Not that I don't like it, I just wouldn't use it as a first name.
Linus- Don't like that 'lie' sound at all.
Paul- Never liked it. Too safe, no charm.

You have a lot of lovely girls names listed, so it is difficult to narrow it down to only three. Girls Favorites:
Alice- one of my top favorite names. I like the image it creates in my mind of a thoughtful, imaginative, and exploratory young lady.
Eleanor- dignified, queenly, and ages well. It fits both a child and mature woman.
Lydia- Beautiful! I like the sound of it, the way it flows. Least favorite girls:
Willa- Not a bad name, it just seems a tad borderline between whimsical and wishy-washy.
Calliope- I dislike the pee sound at the end.
Lilia- okay but somehow it strikes me as the name of someone spoiled.Favorite Boys:
Dimitri- It's masculine, not overly used, and has a classical feel. However, I prefer spellings that start with Dym or Dem because I wouldn't want it shortened to Dim, as in not very bright.
Jasper- I'm currently very fond of this name
Simon- Solid and traditionalLeast favorite boys:
Ambrose- gives off the impression of a timid, awkward boy
Linus- somehow seems whiny and a little snotty or like the Peanuts character, which is a little better, but he still carries around a security blanket.
Tobias- the nn Toby makes me think of a dog

top
Ariadne - It's just melodic.
Helena - Classic but more interesting than Helen. I pronounce it 'HEL-en-uh'
Jane - Classic, but you don't see it so much nowadays.
Ambrose - I have something for slightly feminine-sounding boys' names.
Felix - Top of my list. I love how it looks and sounds.
Jasper - Handsome like Ambrose.bottom
Nicoletta - I think this is the only one on the girls' list I dislike.
Basil - makes me think of Basil Fawlty, Basil Brush.
Jason - feels a bit dated
Paul - dated and ugly-sounding

Girls favorites:Lydia -- Just eighteenth century charm. Getting trendy in the US, but oh well, it deserves to be.Susannah -- Gorgeous and also has eighteenth century charm. Miles above Susan, which was the wildly popular form here fifty to sixty years ago.Veronica -- So elegant.Girls least favorites:Amelia -- I can't stand the "meel" sound in this.Calliope -- Can't stand the "pee" sound at the end. Same reason I don't like Penelope.Artemis -- Sounds like an ugly male name to me.Favorite boys':Luke -- Handsome, classic, Biblical, I've always loved it.Samuel -- Ditto what I said about Luke, and I love the nn Sam. The name of great and great-great grandfathers, so that's a plus for me.Cassius -- This is so cool, I love ancient Latin names, and really like the nn Cash.Least favorite boys:Benjamin -- Very popular, but has always sounded big and brown and bearish to me, and those are not pluses.Jude -- I can't stand the sound. Also makes me think of a Neanderthal.Jasper -- Sounds slimy and evil to me.

Favorites (this was difficult)Elizabeth - classic, lovely, so many nickname options.
Jane - to me, this name is so beautiful. I love to say it. It sounds like a church bell. Plus, there are so many good associations with Jane.
Phoebe - sweet, tucked away name with a great meaning. Abram - It sounds so old-fashioned & modern at the same time. I love the nickname Abe.
Ambrose - great saint, unique name that is easy to say & spell.
Daniel - one of the handsomest names ever.Least favoritesAriadne - over the top.
Artemis - too powerful a name for a mere mortal ;)
Nicoletta - too many trimmings.

Maxim - I think of it as a word more than a name.
Jasper - I imagine this name on a cat, or a bumbling cartoon character.
Jason - no matter how much Homer I read, I still can't get over the fact that Jason sounds as dated as Jennifer.

Favorites: Amelia: always liked this name.
Jane: short and sweet, dispite the plain Jane association.
Persephone: always liked the myth associated with this goddess name.Ambrose: liked it ever since I first saw it used for a character in a book (title escapes me at the moment) and although he wasn't the best character (I think he ended up working with pirates or something) I really ended up liking the name.
Dmitri: just like this name.
Linus: I like it due to the Peanuts association.Least favorite:
Calliope: don't care for how it sounds in my head or when I say it out loud.
Elizabeth: I go back and forth on this name. I used to like it, now it's my least favorite but I'm beginning to warm up to it again.
Phoebe: I just don't care for it.Asher: don't like the ending.
Paul and Silas: don't care for either.

Girls:Fave:
Veronica- one of my own top names that has a good chance of being used irl in the future. Strong and spunky but also endearing. Not overly used either
Lydia- classic but not overused. Rolls off the tongue well and iis just really sweet and cute
Alice- simple, sweet and kind sounding name.Least fave:
Artemis- this looks like a boys name, and not even a nice boys name. Ugly sound and look.
Johanna- so dated to me
Nicoletta- for some reason this sounds tinny and hollow and reminds me of nicotineBoys:Fave:
Jude- also high on my list. It's just so cool. Its hard to find boys names that aren't too weird, aren't to common and sound strong. This name has all the good things. Short and strong and not overused.
Asher- this name makes me a little sad cause I love it with an American accent but it sounds lame and weak with my accent. I love the nn Ash.
Luke- I wouldn't use it because it's so popular but this is a good solid name. Again, short and strong.Least fave:
Dimitri- this sounds like a vampire name, not to be used irl.
Ambrose- sounds girly and reminds me of ambrosia- a food not a name.
Linus- icky and creepy. Special mention for names that make me happy someone else likes:
Persephone- total GP name for me. I'd love to see someone use it irl.
Jason- I never get a good response on this name on this board but I love the nn Jase
Walter- super cute and ready or a comeback.

Regarding Jason. I actually really like it. It's so handsome. When there have been threads about "What names are you sick of?" or "What names have you known a lot of people with?" I've always included Jason in my answer. That's because, it's true, I have known a lot of guys named Jason, and this has made me tired of the name. And I would never ever use it because of its former massive popularity. But when I can forget about that, I do really like the name and I can understand why it was so popular. It's the male equivalent of Sarah that way. I would advise anyone considering Jason and Sarah to avoid them because of their overuse, but it's not the names themselves. I don't know why you never get a good response about Jason, maybe just that everyone's sick of it.

I feel the same way about Ambrose! Is it Ambrosia custard you associate it with, or just that it was 'food of the Gods' in any case, it'll always mean custard to me! :0)
vote up1
Ambrosia to me is a dessert that is a combination of cream, fruity yoghurt, chocolate chuncks, fresh berries and marshmallows mixed together in a bit bowl. I guess our definitions of ambrosia are different but nonetheless it's a dessert not a name!

Girls least
Alice- I can't ever remember liking this name. It seems cold to me.
Ariadne- too much
Willa- Just seems incompleteGirls most
Johanna- I love the way this is spelled
Helena- I have a soft spot for names ending in -a I think this is so much prettier than Helen
Miriam- This is just such a...rounded name. I could imagine it on my own child. Not too sweet or harsh or trendy. Lovely.Boys least
This was difficult to do. I like a lot of your boys names.
Linus - makes me think of a whiney kid, and the word sinus
Paul- just makes me squirm a little inside. SO bland
Jason- not an awful name. There were 3 other contenders for this spot. It's just boring to me.Boys most
Dimitri- always had a soft spot for this name. It's interesting to me and handsome
Matthias- so so handsome! Timeless also. I can imagine this name on someone of any age.
Maxim- less fussy than Maximilian. Sounds strong and interesting without being pretentious:0)

Favorite Girls:
Anna - graceful and beautiful
Cecilia - really pretty sound, underused.
Eleanor - stately.
Elizabeth - one of the most gorgeous names ever.
Helen - underused and dignified.
Susannah - my favorite. Beautiful.
Willa - It never occurred to me that I like this name, but I do. I think I'd prefer Willa as short for Wilhelmina. Least Favorite Girls:
Evangeline - Overstuffed and reminds me of "evangelize"
Felicity - Cheesy
Natalia - Don't like Nat names.
Nicoletta - Way too frilly. I don't really like any Nic- names aside from Nicholas.
Selene - I just dislike it.
Thalia - ditto. Favorite Boys:
Augustus - Nice and I also like Augusta.
Benjamin - solid attractive classic.
Gideon - Not my usual style, but I like the sound.
Gregory - so nice and underused!
James - nice, gentle classic name.
Thomas - so down-to-earth. Least Favorite Boys:
Ambrose - reminds me of Amber, which I loathe.
Asher - sound is too trendy.
Jason - I'm surprised to see this on your list. It doesn't go with your other names. It's so outdated and so trendy.
Luke - puke.
Tobias - Toby is unbearable.
