[Opinions] Rose
Rose may have replaced Adeline as my favorite name. My favorite combo for it is Rose Margaret. I realize it doesn't flow the best but I just love the two names together. Any other combos I may have overlooked? Also, to avoid double-posting, what do you think of Joanna, Sylvia, and Josephine? Not as a sibset, but individually.

I love the name Rose :)

Rose Margaret doesn't flow well imo. One of my combos was Rose Maria.
Joanna is o.k.
Sylvia is good.
Josephine is not my style.

Rose is gorgeous, and Rose Margaret is very nice. Rose Margareta might flow better, though.I LOVE Joanna, like Josephine, and am neutral on Sylvia.

Rose is one of my lease favorite names of all time, but I do like Margaret; although I prefer Margot (Mar-GO). I actually like Adeline a lot. Joanna was my first roomate in college, she was a tiny little sprite, cute, and a pothead but I liked her, and I like the name.Josephine is nmsSylvia was (and may still be) my number one pick for a girl right now. I love love LOVE it!

Rose is better as a fn than a mn, but I still find it a bit boring. On the other hand, Joanna, Sylvia and Josephine are fabulous, I love them! They sound very elegant and are much more interesting than Rose imo. Of the three I think I like Sylvia best, with Joanna a very close second and Josephine just slightly behind due to personal associations.

I like Rose but Rose Margaret is way too old-fashioned for me.

I love Rose (and prefer it to Adeline), but I think that the self-centered Mortmain sister is enough that I wouldn't use it myself. I think Rose Margaret flows very nicely--what seems off about it to you?Joanna, Sylvia, and Josephine are all very good names, too. Combos:Rose Adeline

Come to think of it, I'm not exactly positive why I don't think it flows, but thank you for reassuring me.

Rose is charming. It's nice to see it get fn recognition, instead of relegated to the mn spot. Rose Margaret reminds me of Princess Margaret Rose, Queen Elizabeth's younger sister. I heard once that the combinaiton was so popular there were little "Margaret Roses" born throughout the 30's in Britain. It became a little infamous, like Caitlin is now. Have you ever seen "Absolutely Fabulous?" The main character Edina (Eddie)'s real name is Edwina Margaret Rose. She was so horrified at the "establishment" nature of the name she changed it to Edina in the 60's. Anyway, no one but a geek would think of that now, I just thought I'd pass that along. Rose Marguerite, Rose Margarethe and Rose Mairead op to mind. Others:Rose Adeline (sung to the tune of "Sweet Adeline")
Rose Elizabeth / Elspeth / Eliza (I have no problem with establishment names)
Rose Catherine / Catriona / Cathleen
Rose Aurelia
Rose Dominique
Rose Genevieve
Rose Matilda

Rose CassandraBear, have you read Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle? Rose and Cassandra Mortmain are the main characters! :D They've also got a brother, Thomas, who's a very peripheral character for most of the novel. The combo sounds nice, but it also amuses me slightly because not only is it both sisters, it's in age order. ;)Array

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't read it, but I watched the movie. That's what I get for being lazy and not reading the book -- the names of the sisters didn't register as such. :-/

The book is wonderful--I suspect you'd like it. And it helps that everyone has such romantic names. Cassandra, Rose, Topaz, Simon, Neil, Aubrey, Leda, etc. :DThe only problem with having both of the sisters in the name is that Rose Mortmain wasn't the most grounded and thoughtful of characters. :-/Array

I think Rose is beautiful. It's a bit overused as a mn, but as a fn it's great. My favorite combo is the tried and true Rose Marie, but here's a few more:Rose AngelaRose AmandaRose CatherineRose ClaireRose ErinRose EllenRose GabrielleRose JuliaRose VictoriaI don't really like Joanna, Sylvia or Josephine.
