What would "Telly" be short for?
I'm watching the movie The Forgotten, and the main character's name is Telly. I'm wondering what it could be short for, so if it was you, what would you use Telly as a nickname for? The character is female. It drives me nuts when a character in a movie has a really unusual name and nobody ever explains it.

Telemundo! :)Maybe it's not short for anything though, maybe it just "is." Which would bother me, if that's the case!

Could be a child's mispronunciation of Terry, either short for Theresa or used as a full name (I have a Terry niece like that). Like Susan turning into Tuesday!Or perhaps she could be Telemacha, after her Greek grandfather (a direct descendent of Odysseus, of course).

Nutella :D
I thought of obscure Roman family names like Metella and Vitellia, but Theresa seems much more likely. Natalia seems vaguely possible too.

Woo, Ostarella is different. Can you tell us more about that one?

I honestly have no clue. It popped into my head as I was typing the rest so I wrote it down. I just googled it and it seems to be a fairly uncommon surname, someone's username on a forum, and a blog... I'm trying to think if there's a similar name or word that was in my head at the time, but I'm not sure.

I would say Theresa, Teresa or Therese. I also know a male Terry who goes by 'Tel', so I guess Terri as well.

I'm going to guess ... Theresa? based on Molly and Dolly and Sally.

That's actually a really cute idea!

Chantelle?

Tellenore is an interesting name. Wonder what the story is behind that one.

I don't like Telly. It's short for television here, I can't see it as a name. Gretel is nice but I don't think it needsa nickname.

Cateline - is this "just" KAYT-lin? Because if it would be CAT-uh-line it would be awesome!

TellervoI'd love Katell nn Telly! Katell has never come up on my radar before and I like it. Telly also brings Chantelle up a few notches for me.

Katell is quite pretty and really unexpected, and Tellervo is cool too! They sound like names from the distant future :)

I'd use it for something like Theophila :)

That's a neat idea! When I first tried to think of what Telly could be short for, my brain immediately jumped to Telemachus - which is a male name, but still. I thought Telly could work for a long, meandering old Greek name like that, and Theophila fits that to a T!

What about Telemacha- the way Lucius becomes Lucia, Julius becomes Julia, etc. I did think of Telemachus right away when I saw the thread, too.

Uhm... if it's my grandmother, then "television"...
Really though, I have no idea...
Sure it's not Tilly with weird accents?

It's definitely Telly. I thought it was Sally for the first twenty minutes but then I looked the movie up on IMDB and saw it was Telly.
