Afton
One of the new writers in my program is named Afton, and although the name is truly not my style, I do find it unusually soft and elegant for a name of its ilk (i.e., place name ending in "ton"). It certainly helps that the person bearing the name is lovely. What do you all think?I quite like the combo Afton Eugenia. Some others:Afton Amalia
Afton Augusta
Afton Aurelia
Afton Aurora

I don’t mind Afton / am neutral about it. I like Anniston and it has a similar vibe. I wouldn’t use a middle name that begins with another vowel, particularly another A, it’s too awkward. I think it needs a modernish and almost-frilly middle name.Afton Bryony is my favourite from your list. Afton Louisa also has a nice ring to it. Others:
Afton Sabrina
Afton Juniper
Afton Leilani
Afton Kiara
Afton Linnea
Afton Sienna
Afton Soraya
Afton Sovanna
Afton Zephyra

Dont like it at all

I quite like it. I used it for one of my characters (even though he's a male).
As for combo opinions however, I like Afton Ursula.

It is too close to "After" which is the German word for "anus". But even if I try to forget about that it just doesn't sound nice and doesn't have any good nicknames.

I like it with Beatrice, Cecily, Cordelia, Eloise, Emily, Isabeau, Rosalie and Rosemary. In all cases, I'd prefer Afton as the middle name, but that's just me. I'm sorry you omitted Mary!And I bet you know this, Wordsmith, but others may not:
Afton Water
By Robert BurnsFlow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes,
Flow gently, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise;
My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream,
Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.Thou stock-dove, whose echo resounds thro' the glen,
Ye wild whistling blackbirds in yon thorny den,
Thou green-crested lapwing, thy screaming forbear,
I charge you disturb not my slumbering fair.How lofty, sweet Afton, thy neighbouring hills,
Far mark'd with the courses of clear winding rills;
There daily I wander as noon rises high,
My flocks and my Mary's sweet cot in my eye.How pleasant thy banks and green valleys below,
Where wild in the woodlands the primroses blow;
There oft, as mild Ev'ning sweeps over the lea,
The sweet-scented birk shades my Mary and me.Thy crystal stream, Afton, how lovely it glides,
And winds by the cot where my Mary resides,
How wanton thy waters her snowy feet lave,
As gathering sweet flowrets she stems thy clear wave.Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes,
Flow gently, sweet river, the theme of my lays;
My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream,
Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.

Ooh, I wasn't aware of this poem by Burns, but I knew the river was in Scotland, so I'm not surprised he wrote a poem about it! Thanks for sharing. :)

I think it'd be interesting to meet an Afton, particularly an Afton Priscilla or Afton Rohesia.

Afton Mathilde
Afton Clemency
Afton Sotiria
Afton Cordelia
Afton Hillary
Afton Hortensia
Afton Georgia

What do you think of the combos I listed, though?Hillary shouldn't be paired with Afton if you think the latter is "snobby but shallow," I'd argue.Afton Sotiria and Afton Hortensia are gorgeous.

I just picked a name that felt similar in style to Afton, and I imagine a parent that chose Afton might also like Hillary. Of all your choices I'd go for Afton Rosemary. Rosemary is homely and sweet and balances out Afton's hardness.

I'm not usually a fan of Afton but I love it with Eugenia and Eulalia.

It’s not really my style. I know an Afton Sarah.
