Hazel Grace
My husband and I have decided that if we have a baby girl, her first name will more than likely be Hazel. And then we begin to differ on opinions. He would like to name her Hazel Grace. Me, not so much. Maybe it won't be such a big deal in a year or so, but is this too strong an association to name a baby this? At this point in time, I compare it to naming my child Hermione Jean (Harry Potter, fyi). Maybe The Fault in Our Stars will dwindle down in popularity and this issue will be gone from my mind over the next year.Thoughts? MN suggestions instead of Grace?♥ Rate my list ♥

Hazel Grace does completely remind me of The Fault in Our Stars. I love Hazel but I'm over Grace as a mn. What about:Hazel Asha
Hazel Cleo
Hazel Iris
Hazel Lily
Hazel Jade
Hazel Sarah
Hazel Zoe
Hazel Sasha
Hazel Sinead
Hazel Alice
Hazel Claire
Hazel Ava?

I found the matching vowel + sibilants more of an issue than the association - which admittedly I lack! If you don't mind it, then Hazel Jane would keep the sound but be fresher and avoid possible future trivia questions.Or, if you like the meaning, then Hazel Ann, Hazel Anne, Hazel Anna or Hazel Annabel would be a more subtle way of getting it. If you're open to anything, then I'd love to see Hazel Damaris. Isn't it totally stunning? Assuming that you're not Magz for nothing, then Hazel Margaret, Hazel Margot or Hazel Margery would enhance Hazel's retro flair.

Hazel Margot is beautiful!

I love Hazel and I have liked the name since I first heard it 15 years ago. It's currently one of my top 5 favorites for a girl. Not a huge fan of Grace but it's not terrible it just is a bit too common of a mn and most people I know dislike having a mn that is so common like Anne or Lynn or May or Grace etc because they are so used that they kind of have become filler.I didn't realize that Hazel Grace was the name of that character. My sister-in-law who is 14 read the book and she didn't like it. She said it was poorly written and it was over the top on purpose to make a lot of money by being a hackneyed teenaged love story only with cancer to make it extra tragic to earn extra money. She also felt it was strongly disrespectful for the characters to make out at the Anne Frank House and she doubted anyone would applaud them making out there.I've not read it so I shouldn't judge but it does seem a bit like the on purpose "oscar-bait" of teenage romance novels.I would never use the exact name combo of a popular book or movie character.

I love Hazel and I love Grace, but Grace is so filler and overdone as a mn that I'd avoid it for that reason. Haven't seen TFIOS so don't have that association, but I wouldn't avoid it for that reason because neither name is unusual like Hermione is. I'm sure there have been plenty of Hazel Graces over time.Hazel Anneliese
Hazel Indira
Hazel Imogen
Hazel Clara
Hazel Vivienne
Hazel Delphine
Hazel Eloise
Hazel Evangeline
Hazel Olivia
Hazel Annika
Hazel Genevieve
Hazel Jemima
Hazel Mattea
Hazel Amara
Hazel Carys
Hazel Brenna
Hazel Saskia
Hazel Odette
Hazel Seraphine
Hazel Danica
Hazel Samara
Hazel Emmeline
Hazel Ruth

I doubt the Fault in our Stars character will be irrevocably tied to a name in the same way Hermione is. So I think you can put that worry out of your mind. That being said, Hazel Grace isn't working for me, though I like the sound. It's a little...dull. Grace is just so popular as a middle name. What does your partner like about Grace? Some other suggestions with a "graceful" meaning:Hazel Hannah
Hazel Charis
Hazel Jane
Hazel Amara
Hazel Mila
Hazel JohannaSome G name suggestions:Hazel Genevieve
Hazel Gemma
Hazel Gabrielle
Hazel Gaia
Hazel Georgia
Hazel Georgina
Hazel Gretchen
Hazel Greta
Hazel Gwendolyn
Hazel Guinevere
Hazel GwenythSome single-syllable suggestions:Hazel Faith
Hazel Fay
Hazel Hope
Hazel Joy
Hazel Pearl

Hmm. I like Hazel and Grace. I only like Grace as a first name though, which I tend to like a lot of filler middle names as first names (Anne, Rose, etc.). It's not that obvious of an association. I say this as someone that read the book (though, perhaps I just didn't love the book, so the name didn't stick). I do adore Hazel. Perhaps, if you are willing if you two have a second daughter, she can be a Grace? (Ugh, compromises, right? ;) )I like Hazel with a longer middle name, but I tend to like a shorter + longer name combination.

Hazel is lovely. Hazel Grace, not so much. The repeated vowel is unmusical, and the rhythm of the name is unmusical. You need something more melodic, like Susannah, Olivia, Matilda, or Evangeline in the middle name spot -- something longer than Hazel both in length and syllabic amount.

I don't know anything about "The Fault in Our Stars", so that wouldn't occur to me, but I don't think Hazel Grace flows very well and Grace is a filler middle name, the 2010s equivalent of Ann or Lynn in the 1950s. What about Hazel Zoe? That was my grandmother's name. Of course, she was named when Zoe was a very unusual name, rather than the popular one it is now, but at least Zoe isn't fillerish as a middle name.

two many z sounds too close together.

Well, my first thought was "It's a metaphor!" I can't say if the association will dwindle–there are people who celebrate "Alaska Young Day" even though the book came out years ago and there isn't even a movie. John Green's writing is popular and probably isn't going to get less popular anytime soon.Hazel Anne
Hazel Jane
Hazel Tamara
Hazel Jennie
Hazel Juliane (or your preferred spelling)
Hazel Augusta
Hazel Ava
Hazel Matilda
Hazel Mae
Hazel Rae
Hazel Morgana
Hazel Claire
Hazel Eden
Hazel Joy

I got the reference, however I recently read The Fault in Our Stars. I don't think it's nearly as ubiquitous as Hermione (with or without Jean). I agree with previous posters that the combination is a bit dull, Grace's are a dime a dozen right now and it's every other girls middle name. However, don't let that dissuade you if it's your favourite! Some suggestions:
Hazel Audrey
Hazel Anna
Hazel Anneliese
Hazel Beatrice
Hazel Charlotte
Hazel Emma
Hazel Genevieve
Hazel Graciela
Hazel Imogen
Hazel Juliet
Hazel Katrina
Hazel Lucia
Hazel Margot
Hazel Matilda
Hazel Margarita
Hazel Ramona
Hazel Theodora
Hazel Zoe

I don't think there's anything wrong with Hazel Grace. The film/book may be popular now but it's not going to be so ubiquitous ten years from now.Regardless, I think you can do better than Grace for a mn. There are so many possibilities, why go for a filler mn?Hazel Alexandra
Hazel Genevieve
Hazel Vivienne
Hazel Marian
Hazel Beatrix
Hazel Georgina
Hazel Olivia
Hazel Miranda
Hazel Felicity
Hazel Emilia / Amelia
Hazel Daphne
Hazel Adelaide
Hazel Sylvie
Hazel Charlotte
Hazel Verity
Hazel Imogen
Hazel Susannah

I'm a bit old to have been sucked into the whole "Fault in Our Stars" thing, but I did get the reference and I just don't like Hazel Grace. Hazel's kind of a hard name to find a mn for, I think. Don't use any flowers/nature-y names, though. Stuff like Hazel Rayne and Hazel Willow is just too much. Hazel Beatrice
Hazel Clare
Hazel Emily
Hazel Marie
Hazel Josephine
Hazel Nadine
Hazel Michelle
Hazel Fiona
Hazel Diana
Hazel Maureen
Hazel Celia
Hazel Jane

I don't know the Fault in Our Stars, so the reference sailed straight over my head.
But I do know that Hazel Grace doesn't sound good at all together. It's almost rhyming.
I don't get Hermione Jean. Yes, Hermione is definitely mostly known through the Harry Potter books, but Jean?Hazel Victoria
Hazel Kathleen
Hazel Rebecca
Hazel Mariah
Hazel Lucille
Hazel Joy
Hazel Erin
Hazel Diana
Hazel Christina
Hazel Brianna
Hazel Amanda.

I think Jean is Hermione's middle name in the books.

I instantly thought of The Fault in our Stars. Is there any particular reason why your husband likes the name Grace? Because it's such a filler middle name. My name is Hazel Elizabeth and I know a Hazel Rose, but those aren't much better!Hazel Jeane
Hazel Angelica
Hazel Madeleine
Hazel Lavinia
Hazel Clematis
Hazel Davina
Hazel Yvette
Hazel Magdalen
Hazel Winifred
Hazel Cecily
