Mark and variants
Seeing a post about a newborn called Mark got me thinking... Is Mark still usable today? Or is too old fashioned, or just overused and boring? What's your favourite form of the name? Personnally, I like:Mark
Markus
Marcus
Marcel (mar-SEL)
Mommy to Myrtle Nola (22-10-2012) and baby due 25-05-2015

It's dated like Steven is dated. It's a little more usable because Steve is so stereotyped now, and Mark is not so much. But still, a dad/grampa name. I would not use Mark with a K for a son. But, it's usable.I would use Marcus, called Marc. I really like Marc. It gives me a very different impression from Mark. Evokes the word mark much less, evokes the Bible ever so much less - seems more classic than Biblical; and just isn't as dated.Markus is not so great IMO in English because it's mark us.
Marcel is something totally other. Seems less heroic and more artsy or comic.
There's Marcellus, and Mars.

Totally usable. Not old-fashioned at all. I thought Mark was a bit of a classic. Not overused, but with a steady presence. Which means it's not super interesting either, but still handsome - like Samuel or Joshua or Luke. I like Markus or Marcus. How about Marco / Marko? Or Marek? I've always liked Marek. Also Marcos?

I don't like Marco or Marko, but I do love Marek. But it's more like a nickname imo, with the Polish -ek ending.
Marcos is nice too.

Marcus is definitely usable. I think Mark still is too. Don't ask me why but I vastly prefer Marc.

I really, really like the name Mark! Always have, and I really don't feel it was overused enough to be a problem...definitely not common now while fitting in very well with the other popular names.

I think Mark is a classic name and entirely usable. I also like Marc and Marcel. Marcus is a bit pompous-sounding to me.

My friend has a Mark Stephen. She dithered for a long time between Mark Stephen and Stephen Mark, and still thinks she might have made the wrong choice.I don't much care for Mark. Marcel is quite popular where I live, more so than Mark. When I see Markus, I hear the German pronunciation, which I like but it'd be too confusing IRL. I like Marcus the best, almost enough to use.
