Please welcome Gemma Winifred and Ernestina Louise! Gemma is a 9 year old girl from the Northeastern United States and Ernestina "Nessie" is her 7 year old sister. They are inseparable and so excited to be able to go home together! They were in the care of their grandmother since birth because their birth mother has always been in and out of jail, but their grandmother recently died after a heart attack.Gemma wants to be a writer when she grows up. She especially loves writing science fiction stories set in the future, and has a very active imagination! When she isn't coming up with stories or writing them down, she likes to read books and practice science experiments. She is very intelligent and has a great sense of humor! She is fiercely protective of Nessie.Nessie is always singing (sometimes to her big sister's annoyance). She dreams of being on the stage and wants to learn how to dance so she can be in show business someday. Nessie was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and as a result suffers from epilepsy and some impulse control issues which she has worked on with a therapist in the past. She has a great positive attitude and is a natural leader. Please let us know how Gemma and Nessie are doing in your family!

Gems (as her new little sister Saoirse calls her) and Nessie are settling in very well with our family! Gems is excelling at her new school - she just won 1st place in the elementary school science fair for a project on the solar system! Everyone pitched in to help build all the planet models. She has also joined the school's book club, and has made lots of new friends there.Nessie is also doing very well at school. The primary school counsellor has experience helping children deal with epilepsy, so she's in good hands! She just tried out for the school production (they're doing Peter Pan and she hopes to be Wendy) so our fingers are crossed! In the spring we've decided to go to Ireland to visit Miranda's family on the coast. Everyone is very excited!

Please welcome Hikari, Ji-Eun, and Joel Alexander! Hikari is a 5 year old girl from Japan, Ji-Eun is a 4 year old girl from South Korea, and Joel is a 2 year old boy from the Southwestern United States. Hikari is a bright and engaging girl who really enjoys looking at maps and going for walks. She doesn't know how to ride a bike but she very much wants to learn. She wants to be an explorer when she grows up, although she isn't quite sure where in particular she'd like to explore as yet. Her parents are amphetamine users who lost custody of Hikari when she was three after a drug bust in her home. She has few memories of the incident, but often wakes up in the night missing her birth parents and wanting to see them. Ji-Eun is a fun-loving little girl who especially enjoys messy crafts! Ji-Eun was removed from her home after her babysitter discovered that she was being physically abused. Because of this abuse she does not have the full use of both of her legs, and it is conceivable that she will need a wheelchair later in life. Despite this, she almost always has something to giggle about and loves to tell jokes. Joel is a very shy little boy who gets nervous around new people, but is quite cuddly and friendly once he gets to know you! His parents died in a fire last year. He was rescued from the home but did suffer several burns and has some scarring on his arms and legs. He loves to listen to music and likes mixing up ingredients to help with cooking (but gets nervous with ovens and stove tops). Please let us know how Hikari, Ji-Eun, and Joel are doing in their new home with you!

Please welcome Eva Simone, Patrick Ryland, Arthur William, and Lucy Clementine! Eva and Patrick are two year old twins from the southern United States whose parents died recently in a car accident. Arthur is a four year old boy from Northern a England, and Lucy is his 6 month old sister. Their single mother died from complications related to Lucy's birth.Eva is a cheerful little girl who babbles constantly and is doing very well with speech development. She often misses her birth parents and has trouble understanding that they are not coming back, but with time and as she develops she should adjust. Patrick is much quieter than his sister. He loves being around her and around people in general. The children do have a dog who they adore and who adores them, Stella, a 2 year old golden retriever. She is energetic but well behaved and always protecting the twins!Arthur is a thoughtful boy who loves watching shows about science and nature, which he always likes to explain to his baby sister. He loves animals and wants to be a vet someday. He is a great listener and is very serious most of the time. Lucy adores him and when she cries he is able to soothe her most of the time just by talking to her. Please let us know how Eva, Patrick, Arthur, and Lucy are doing in your family! And Stella too!

Eva, Patrick, Arthur, Lucy, and Stella are doing great! We are doing our best to help Eva adjust to her new family. She enjoys having new siblings and the dog, and they get along well. Patrick is still quiet but seems to enjoy playing with Eva and Arthur. Meanwhile, Lucy is getting very big and loves both of her parents. We found lots of videos that Arthur loves and he is learning more about the world around, especially animals, which makes him want to be a vet even more!Together, we are making a book of memories with the new children, so that when they are older they can look back on it. We are letting them know that they are loved very much, every day.Our family is now even more awesome than we could ever have dreamed!

Please welcome Margaux Francine and Simon Emmett! Margaux is a 5 year old girl from Quebec and Simon is a 3 year old boy from the Northeastern United States. Margaux's parents died when she was two in a boating accident, and she has been in state custody since then. She is shy and quiet around adults but enjoys playing with other children, especially imagination games where she can pretend to be a world famous ballerina - she loves dancing hopes to take dance lessons someday! She also loves being read to and particularly enjoys adventure stories. Simon was placed for adoption at birth, and he has lived with several different foster families since then. He most recently was placed with a large family for a period of 8 months that was unfortunately found to be neglectful. His nutrition is getting back on track, but his speech skills are not as developed as they might be as a result of being left alone for long periods of time and having limited interaction with adults. He is a very playful child and he loves being outside and exploring. Please let us know how Margaux and Simon are doing!

Margaux and Simon are settling well in our family.Margaux and her big sister Indie are already inseparable. They both enjoy imagination games and often run around dressed as ballerinas. Margaux was in kiddie heaven when we brought her to her first dance class. Her teacher is amazed by the quick progress she is making in the short time she's attending the classes. She will have her first recital in two weeks and can't wait to show us what she learned. She is also doing well academically and is picking up the letters and numbers quickly. She loves when we read to her and lately has been trying to read some children books to her brother with ours and Indie's help.Simon is our little snuggly boy. For the first weeks following the adoption he was very attached to us striving for physical contact and attention. Now that he is a little bit more secure he loves to spend time outside and explore the world. He adores his big sisters and they adore him in return. We've recently taken the kids for a hiking trip and he enjoyed exploring everything on our way. His speech skills are slowly but surely improving and he is becoming quite a chatterbox, he often runs to us in the morning with his favorite book and would spend hours snuggled to me or James and being read to.

Little Jayceon Anthony Lawson-Patterson makes us smile everyday! He smiles all the time, indeed, and we can see his first milk teeth coming out! Schuyler quit his job last Sunday, so he can be a full-time daddy. It doesn't have problems with sleeping anymore. Now that he has loving parents, he is "chill".
Also, Schuyler has just bought a puppy, Baby. He is a 3 months old cockapoo which is very playful, but also very friendly with Jayceon. He licks him on his face all day long (Emilie does not like that, she says the dog has a lot of "germs").
Also, last week, Emilie found out she is pregnant!

Please welcome Veronica Clare and Jeremy Walter! Veronica me Jeremy are 4 year old twins from Northwest England. Their birth mother is quite young, and decided she would not be able to give them the life she felt they deserved so she placed them for adoption at birth. They have been bounced between foster homes and state care since then.Veronica is a sweet and bubbly little girl who loves all things art! She enjoys drawing and coloring, and is always eager to share her pictures with anyone around. She also has lots of energy and wants to be a professional footballer when she grows up. Jeremy is the quieter of the two, but he shares his sister's passion for creating pretty pictures! He is very focused and could work on one drawing for a very long time before getting bored. He gets attached quickly and gives fantastic hugs! His language skills are a bit behind, but with a consistent environment in which to learn he will probably catch right up.Please let us know how Veronica and Jeremy are doing in your family!

Veronica and Jeremy - or "Roni" and "Jem" as they have affectionately been nicknamed have settled well into life with the Fentons.Reuben adores playing football in the garden with Roni and we have recently enrolled her onto a local "Little Kickers" scheme for aspiring players aged 3-6.Octavia has bonded very well with Jem, she talks to him loads and always likes to make sure he is okay, taking keen interest in his art work.At school the children have begun Reception and are steadily finding their feet. Roni is a little rough and tumble but her outgoing personality has quickly made her friends.
Being more reserved, Jem has found the school environment a little more daunting. He likes to stay in the art corner where he is comfortable but the teachers are using picture cards to improve his communication and slowly he is coming out of his shell. Our family is full of energy and love. We are already planning loads of holidays around England to go on nature trails and sketching expeditions. In a few months time we will also be hosting our relatives from Hong Kong who are extremely excited to meet the twins.

Please welcome Artem Uladzimir! Artem is a 14 year old boy hailing from Belarus. He was raised by his father after the death of his mother in a car accident shortly after his birth, but his father died in 2010 after being beaten during a protest of the election. Artem witnessed the beating and suffers from PTSD as a result. He has been in a state-run orphanage since his father's death, and is very excited to finally have a new home, although he misses his dad very much. Artem is shy at first, but loves to chat once you get to know him. His first language is Russian, but he has been studying English for several years and picking it up quickly. He is a very active child and loves running and playing any sort of sport. Please let us know how Artem is doing in your home!

Artem came home with us to Brighton Beach with hesitant smiles and few words, but over time, he's been allowed to open up a bit.James enrolled him in a mixed martial arts class that includes teaching him elements of boxing, taekwondo, and krav maga. He's been a very natural learner of the sport so far. James and a few friends who have their own children (some around Artem's age) have all come together and they've been playing softball in the park about once a week and he's learning and enjoying it so far. (They've even gotten me to play a few times and I've never been a fan before.)We recognize that sometimes it's good to get away and have space and quiet time to yourself. Because of this, we set his room up with a desk and shelves that create a kind of alcove for him to "hide away." He's mostly used the space to read books (okay, fine, it's a tablet, but still) and play games on his computer so far.Artem has been enrolled in a schooling program that allows a personal teacher to meet wth him each school day. We made sure he received a teacher who spoke both English and Russian fluently because we want him to be able to fully learn in whichever language he prefers. On top of that, I found him a therapist who speaks both languages. As a native Russian speaker who lives in an English speaking world, I know firsthand how some things can be better expressed in one language than another. We wanted him to be able to express himself however he felt best. He's Liho's favourite person. The cat that used to be my extra shadow is now often found sitting on Artem's desk or in his lap while he hangs out in his room. I think they're both quiet and introspective so they understand one another. Overall, he's finding his place. He's opening up and we can talk easier than we did when he first joined us. He's started sharing stories of his childhood with his father and his old school and friends. We hope to get to a point where these things are less painful for him to talk about and we are able to help him remember his biological family and his Belarusian upbringing in comforting and honoring ways.
