Your least favorite popular names
Are there any popular names (either in the top 100 or rising very quickly) that you just don't find attractive at all? I dislike many of them, but with most I at least understand why they're popular. I don't like Ella, for example, but I can see why it's popular. It is a classic, it is short and simple, it combines popular sounds. Are there any names that are common but you simply don't understand why? Post them and let the others reply to the names you listed. Maybe they can tell you what is really awesome about them. Please don't take it personally if your name makes any of these lists. It's just for fun.I'll start:In the top 100:Abigail - I just don't get how this is so common. My guess is that people want an Abby but think it's too nicknamey as a full name. Gail seems dated, Abigail reminds me of an unattractive old witch. To me it's in the same category as Bertha and Beulah, only that I find Bertha and Beulah more attractive.
Mia - this is just so flimsy. It doesn't seem to have any weight or substance. I know its simplicity probably attracts people to it, but to me it is very different from other simple names such as Ava or Eva. It also has a screechy sound.
Brooklyn - Brooke is attractive but I don't see the appeal of Brooklyn. Lynn is dated by itself, Brooke is on its way out of the top 100. Even though the place in NY has become more attractive lately it's still mostly seen as a lower class part of town.
Amelia - all I hear is that awful MEEL sound. Yes, it's a classic but there are so many more attractive classics than Amelia.
Aaliyah - this looks so odd to me. I know a singer had this name, but she died over ten years ago and she was never that popular to begin with. It looks so messy with all those extra letters. Alia is much more appealing.
Kimberly - how is this still common? I know it was attractive in the 60s but it seems more dated than Lindsay or Courtney which have been out of the top 100 for quite some time.
Andrea - see KimberlySpellings:Hailey - I will never understand why this is more common than Hayley. I thought people were into trendy Ys.
Makayla - how is this more common than Mikayla? I understand it being more popular than Michaela because it looks more like Kayla which is popular.Cooper - this just makes me think of poop
Brayden - I understand why Aidan, Jayden etc are common. The AY sound is just very trendy right now. But Brayden? This just reminds me of donkeys.
Don't get me wrong, there are lots of names I dislike more than the ones listed above. Nevaeh and Genesis come to mind. But with them I can at least understand their popularity somewhat (religious reasons).

Names in the Top 100 I don't like:Mason, Landon, Carter, Chase, Parker, Cooper, Brody, Carson, Nolan - I don't generally like surnames as first names.
Jayden / Jaden
Aiden / Ayden - These spelling; Aidan is okay.
Anthony - I've just never found it attractive. The first syllable sounds bad in my accent (really short and nasal 'a'), imo, and I don't like Tony.
Ryan - I just know too, too many.
Samuel - Never liked "Sam."
Brayden
Brandon - (see Ryan)
Blake
Cole
Colton - I have a cousin named this (though he's a senior in high school, not a baby). I like my cousin well enough, but I've always found his name to be a very country-bumpkin name. Also, it reminds me of guns.
Bentley - WHY IS THIS A NAME???
Hayden
BrysonMadison - It ends with "son" and starts with "mad."
Mia - Seems too much like a nickname to me. I keep wanting it to be short for Amelia.
Addison
Grace - You know, for what it describes, "grace" is a rather harsh-sounding word, imo. I'm also not a huge fan of virtue names.
Avery - Doesn't sound remotely feminine to me.
Brooklyn - This is not a name. This is a borough of New York City. You might as well name your child Manhattan or Bronx or... wait... yeah... poor Bronx Mowgli...

Girls:Isabelle, Isabel, and Isabella - All sound too "heavy," and the last one makes me think of the depressed teenager from "Twilight."
Emma - Just too popular.
Mary - I know, I know, this name is slowly decreasing in usage and popularity, but I think it's the most bland name in existence.
Elizabeth - Too overused. Don't like nicknames Lizzie and Eliza, either. But I am tolerate of the Beth, Betty, and Betsy nicknames.
Chloe - I don't like it, but I don't hate it, either. Just like Emma, it's too popular.
Sophia and Sophie - Too overused.
Genesis - Weird.
Delaney - Weird. Plus, it sounds better on a street than on a girl (DeLANEy).Boys:James - Too bland and overused.
Mason - I automatically think of Charles Manson; this name will turn your kid into a delinquent.
Ethan - Indifferent, but it's just too popular.
Gavin - Sounds like "gavel," which is what a judge uses.
Angel - Really? Moms are using THIS NAME on a boy? It's too feminine!!
Eli - Too short.

Angel is likely pronounced the Spanish way and is popular among Latin Americans.

I love the name Gail, actually - it seems dated in the way Betty and June seem dated, retro 40's - and Abigail sounds lovely to me, with a Puritan feel. I think it might stem from six-year-old me having complete hero worship for a woman named Avigail who lived down the road. Abby, on the other hand, I have no idea why it's popular. Completely agree about Mia, Brooklyn, Aaliyah vs. Alia (which I think is beautiful). Andrea sounds weird to me on girls; I grew up with several boy cousin Andreas. -son ending names for girls just irritate me on so many levels.

Chloe - it seems so babyish and stupid and whiney
Maddison/Madison and Addison - I do not find these appealing sounds! They seem so harsh.
Chelsea - Ugh, why. And it seems outdated. Shouldn't Chelseas be in their twenties or older?
Summer - I have never liked this name. It seems bossy and pretentious. Either that or unbearably bubbly, like the child is cursed to always be happy.
Lillian - Oh my god old lady name. Liliana is even worse. Just stick with Lily!
Paige - I wonder if all Paiges like reading.
Ashley - stop. This should have gone out of fashion decades ago.
Amber - same as Ashley.
Mikayla - Michaela or Mikaela, please! Although, I agree, this is better than Makayla.
Ellie - Hi, I'm Prime Minister Ellie Jones. CEO Ellie Smith. It's cute, but it's ridiculous to have as a full name.
Bella - Ugh. Twilight should have turned people OFF this name.
Holly - not a nice sound. I prefer Molly. And also a bit too Christmassy. I do apologise, if you have one of these names, please don't take it personally.
