My favorite aunt was named Joan. So it's a name that is very dear to my heart. But it fits with other names that I love like Jean, Myra ("MIE-ruh"), Sibyl, Freda, Margaret / Marjorie / Margot, Anne, Vera, Enid, Cora, Ada, Lynn, Clare, Adele, Sylvia, Carole, Hope, Wren, Hazel, Bridget, Glynis, Maureen / Maura / Miriam / Mary / Marion, Beryl, Virginia, Bernadette, Nora, Maud / Maude, Audrey, Helen / Lena / Eileen, Veronica, Agnes, Louise, Imogen, Judith, Cornelia, Gilda, Edith, Imelda, Pauline, Beatrice, Elsa, Lenore, Ingrid, Martha and Leda. They all share a down-to-Earth, sensible shoes, WWII austerity that I find very chic. It's a nice alternative to the usual sugary sweet names we come across. Don't get me wrong. I have a sweet tooth and love them too. But Joan and her cardigan-clad sisters are much rarer. So when I come across them I'm extra tickled pink.

Makes me think of "Joan" by Butch Walker though. Sweet/sad song.

I like Joan a lot. Joanna/Joanne I've never been particularly fond of, but I think Joan is fantastic.

I really like Joan. I've met one young Joan, but for some reason, she pronounces it like Jo-anne. The original pronunciation is definitely better. I prefer Joanna, spelled Johanna. Maybe your husband will get over his aversion with that spelling.

Joan is a classic, strong name. I've been liking this one lately. Joanna is really pretty.

I like Joan. I think it's very nice and "sturdy" sounding. it reminds me of Joan of Arc. I don't like Joanne. Joanna is alright. I prefer Johanna though (though It reminds me of Sweeney Todd).

I love Johanna especially. I already have a Josephine though so I could never use it. How about Josephine or Johanna? :P

Joan is just alright for me. It's mostly in look because I like the sound a lot. I prefer Jane.

But I do really like Joanna. I never took much notice of it until I had a friend in college by that name. She was sweet and pretty and a very good violin player, so now that's the image I get from Joanna.

I also like Johanna a lot (prn. like Jo+Hannah). It's much lighter and more open than Joanna, and it's very kind and smiley and friendly. I had a good friend throughout school with that name, so I have a good association with it, too.

I love Joan; very strong to me, and I think it has a lovely beauty about it. I like Joanna, which reminds me of Johanna from "Sweeney Tood".
