[Opinions] Harold
I was just at the store and heard a mom call her 3ish-year-old Harold. I've never really thought much about Harold before, but I thought it sounded really good hearing it on a little kid. I went to school with a Harold, but I think he might be the only one I've ever met.Anyway, what do you think of Harold? Combo ideas are fine too if you want, I haven't tried to make any yet!(p.s. I pronounce it HER-əld, just like the word herald.)

I think it's super-ugly personally... Have never liked the name... First image that comes to mind is an old balding man.

It was my grandfather's name (and a friend's grandfather's name), so it still feels pretty "old man" to me [but then, both of these Harolds have passed away-- isn't it that once the older generation of the name is disappearing, it comes back for the younger generation?]. (And I think of Harold and Maude, which is a good association for me)I think I'd be pleasantly surprised to meet a little Harold. My grandfather was Harold Leroy, but perhaps something that feels a little more modern will make me appreciate it more...Harold Apollo
Harold Brody
Harold Casey
Harold Conor
Harold Felix
Harold Finley / Finlay / etc
Harold Gideon
Harold Griffin
Harold Jonas
Harold Kingsley
Harold Kingston
Harold Leo
Harold Lucas
Harold Luke
Harold Micaiah
Harold Miles
Harold Milo
Harold Morgan
Harold Noah
Harold Peter
Harold Quincy
Harold Rowan
Harold Sage
Harold Sky
Harold Tatum
Harold Tyler
Harold Walter
Harold Wyatt

Hmm, most of those combos are too to the modern spectrum for me paired with it, but Harold Conor, Harold Peter, and Harold Walter are really nice.

I automatically think of it as an old person's name because it is my grandpa's name and he is the only Harold I've met plus it ends in old so I don't think that helps. And I'm not too fond of the nickname Harry, I think hairy, which sounds gross. Oddly it never occurred to me that Harry is the logical nickname until I heard somebody my grandpa kind of knows call him Harry and I laughed so hard. The thought never occurred to me because everyone who really knows him calls him by his middle name and everyone who doesn't know him is proper and calls him Harold or Mr. B______. I do find Harrison a bit charming and may use it as a middle name for a son someday to honor my grandfather because we are really close. His full name is Harold Dewayne "Wayne".

Actually the name Harold reminds me of someone i once knew, a politician to be exact. so the name brings to mind a man who was a leader and achiever. As for Harry, it's pretty hot when you consider Prince Harry of England (grandson of Queen Elizabeth) has that name. And then there was also a guy i once admired whose name was Harlan. he had the nicest smile and outgoing personality. So the "Har" names are all positive for me!

Haha, the Harold sounding old from having old right in it made me laugh. :)I like Harrison too, but for awhile it's lost its shininess and I was thinking Harold was a nice new alternative for me.

For some reason I don't like Harold, but I'd like it if I saw a kid named Herald. It's partly the fact that Harold makes me think old/dated, and partly something about the "ar" pronounced like "air" that just makes me prefer it when it's spelled "er". Less tension or something. Also I'm a secret sucker for random word names, especially when they sound very namey...

I don't feel very strongly about Harold. I am fond of it because a college acquaintance's grandfather (who many of us knew) was named Harold but affectionately called Hank (which I know is not etymologically legitimate, but I like it anyway).

:) Harold is my favorite Clarinet's name...Anyway, I like it, I think it's a bit nerdy feeling, but it's a name that would age well.

Haha. My husband's good clarinet is named Woodrow. :)Interesting, I don't get a nerdy vibe from it at all. If anything, it's more like guy who works on cars.

I really like Harold August, Harold Barnaby, and Harold Nathan! It's hard to know what combos to like when I'm note entirely sure what image I'm getting from it yet, but after seeing those I think I'm good. :)
