[Opinions] WDYT of Edward?
This has been my consistant fave since I was 7 or 8, probably because that's when I first saw Sense and Sensibility. Then I read (and saw) Jane Eyre, and then Twilight came out. I've also used this name for stories I've tried to write.
Any combos besides Edward Charles or Edward Francis? Edward Percival?

Has Twilight really ruined Edward? I really love the name...and would use it, except for the fact that everyone now associates it with the books (which I've read and found terrible - sorry! :D)

I know. There are a lot of Edwards out there. Even some English kings. People shouldn't be afraid to use the name. Esme, on the other hand, was new to me. I first heard about it when I read the posts here about Twilight, so I can see why you would be leary to use it.

Edward has never been a favorite of mine, just never have liked the sound of it. And the one time that I used it for a story, I gave the character the nickname "Ward" (pro. like "Word". Why, I don't know, but I like that better than "Ed", "Edd", "Eddie", etc.) And I honestly felt sorry for an acquaintance/friend of mine who had Edward as a middle name. But because of Chronicles of Narnia (been a fan since I could listen to a story, my mom is a MAJOR C.S. Lewis fan, so we always had his books around), I've always prefered Edmund to Edward.I would keep it as a middle name.

Edward is such a strong standard in the English languages that it doesn't conjure any one specific character, especially not one with such a limited demographic as Twilight, which I have not read, and probably never will.I like:Edward Christopher
Edward Finnegan
Edward Gabriel
Edward Josiah
Edward Nicholas
Edward Phineas
Edward Samuel -- my choice
Edward Simeon
Edward Theodore
Edward Tobias

I think people make Twilight a bigger deal than it really isIt'll die out guys. All those teenage girls that listened to Backstreet Boys aren't naming their kids after them now. I am more tired of people complaining about Twilight than the actual fans now. "Twilight ruined Jasper, Twilight ruined Rosalie, Twilight ruined Esme, etc." It's ONE book, the people that hate it obsess over it more than the fans sometimes. There are tens of thousands more Edwards out there that aren't associated with Twilight and anyone with half a brain would realize that should they meet a little Edward. That said, I don't like Ed or Eddie so Edward has stayed in a middle name category for me. Edward Alexander
Edward Benjamin
Edward Liam
Edward Theodore (A little too Kennedy for me though)
Edward Augustus / August
Edward Forrest
Edward Nathaniel
Edward Lewis / Louis
Edward Joseph
Edward Arthur

I have been set on using Edward since I got married in 2001. It is my top boys name and with or without Twilight I'll name my future son Edward.

I can't stand the popularity of those books amongst teenage girls and having to hear them mentioned constantly in public. It's an association that's actually turned me off a name I once adored.I prefer Edmund.

I love Edmund, too. But I think you shouldn't think of Twilight, then. I wasn't originally into it, but I found out that Robert Pattinson was going to be in it and then I read it so I could see it. Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter...he was the ONLY reason I initially got into it.

Trust me, I try not to think of Twilight! But it's very popular and people mention that character all the time. :/
