Just saw this on the Games board and was reminded of my affinity for it. It's one of those names that doesn't really fit in my style, but doesn't really not fit, either.
1. WDYT of Nyx? Could you see it used for real on a child?
2. Regardless of your answer for one, please humor me and make some combos with it (FN or MN).

Okay, that was too easy. Let's get serious a minute.
It's easier, obviously, to make Nyx a mn because it's one syllable, and it ends in X, making it tough to put it before any number of letters. Like S, for example, which gets buried by the X sound. But heck, let's get the hard part out of the way, try making it a fn first. Probably best in front of vowels, mostly. And Greek ones at that. Now, you know me. I always do alliteration and assonance. Being thus forewarned, do any of these grab you?

I sit with four books in my lap in front of my screen
Sometimes it takes me two hours to answer one post! *LOL* But honestly, I think of it as linguistic sudoku. I find it very relaxing. And when an OP really catches my imagination, as Nyx did (honest to goodness, my first thought was Stevie Nyx!), I very much enjoy creating combo lists like this.
And frequently end up adding one or two to my collection! After all, I did it for you, but I did it, so I don't feel guilty about sometimes keeping a combo I've made for someone else. Besides which, I'll never use any one I create-then-keep, because I've had all my kids. Plus, I'm one who happens to think that name combos don't belong to anyone anywhere, no matter who thnks they made them up first (certain people's rants about certain names get under my skin - like no one else could ever in a million years come up with it - whatever).
I have a whole name category (which I didn't post the other day) called "inspired by other people's favorite names." I have Hawkeye Scirocco on it because of Array, for example.
In this case I'm having a hard time deciding amongst Artemis Nyx, Pandora Nyx and Persephone Nyx, but leaning toward the first.
Anyway, I'm quite pleased you like the list! That's really what keeps me comin back. Cheers!

Well, it is much appreciated! Even if I don't plan on seriously using a name, I love bouncing it around, seeing what others think and of course, finding combos with it. Even if I don't take a name seriously at first, the right combo can change that.

1. I like it as a name, but I personally wouldn't use it on a real child because it always makes me think of the Greek goddess (well, personification). Not that it's a bad association - I just have a hard time imaging names I strongly associate with one particular person/character on anyone else.

1. No, I would never use this for real on a child. Nyx (pronounced Nix?) means only "veto" in my mind (as in "sorry, but I have to nix that idea). Plus, the yx looks a little strange.
2. Name combos (it's late at night, okay?)
Nyx Flynn (sounds kind of fantasy-like)
Nyx Xavier (ha! How many can say they have double x's in their name?)
Nyx Channing (sounds like a movie star)
Nyx Frey (sounds like Pig-latin...)
Nyx Heath (don't know why I like this one)
Ira Nyx (pronounced vaguely the same as 'ironic(s)'- woop)
Logan Nyx (I really like the name Logan)
Lucius Nyx (Lucius means light, Nyx mean night, near opposites, and they rhyme)
Nigel Nyx (another movie star)

Nyx is like Pax. Both are names I want to like, uncommon but not too far out there. Unfortunately because of the word nix Nyx just doesn't cut it with me. But I want to like it, I really do.

Yeah, I like it so much, but it seems sort of not usable, hence the Question. (I may eventually have a pup with this name, though!)
Thanks for the suggestions. If I see a combo that jumps out, I'll move it back to people name possibility. :) The problem is that the ones I think are lovely and so perfect (like Isolde Nyx) just seem even more out there than Nyx itself. Alas. Thanks, though.

that I didn't answer the second part of your first question. Could I see it on a real live child? Yes, but not on my real live child. On someone else's, someone else much more non-conformist than I. Someone who writes FU in the memo part of their property tax payment check. Someone more free-spirited who associates Nyx more with mythology and less with nihilism.

Ignoring the later offspring, I think it's really cool to think about how night itself (which is seen as dismal and, well, dark) bears essentially Dawn and Day. I quite like the night for its own merits as well, but the goddess story of Nyx is a solid reminder of night's intricate union with day.
