I like both but Gianna might cause some confusion. In case you don't know, the correct pronunciation of Gianna is more like JOHN-nuh not Gee-AH-nuh (with the I and A sort of blending together, and preferably pronouncing both N's). This is a fairly popular name around me bc there is a large Italian population, and I would guess most of them use the Italian prn. It might be a hassle to use a non-standard pronunciation. Then again, if you live in an area with very few Italians, your pronunciation would probably be easier for English speakers.

Gillian, but I prefer it spelled Jillian. The problem I have with Gianna is that it's a nickname (of Giovanna).

I my husband and I have chosen the name Gianna for a girl, so obviously that's my preference. lol I don't think it is too Italian (although my husband is Italian)--the longer Giovanna is a bit much for a non-Italian family name, even for us. Gianna has the much cuter nn of Gia over Jill, so I think that's another thing to consider. Not sure what you think of those nns. We're using Albertine as a mn, but that's because we would be naming her after my dad, John Albert. I could see how you might think Albertine is too archaic sounding, so I'm not suggesting it. How about:Gianna Amalia / Amalie
Gianna Camille
Gianna Cassandra
Gianna Charmaine
Gianna Christabel
Gianna Danielle
Gianna Elisabeth
Gianna Elise
Gianna Emeline
Gianna Honoria
Gianna Katrina
Gianna Lorelei
Gianna Magdalene
Gianna Marisa
Gianna Pearl
Gianna Roselle
Gianna Sabrina

Gillian is better, I think it's more flexible in that it fits in with many styles. I prefer Jillian just a little more though. Sorry, can't think of any MN suggestions at the moment though.

I think Gillian will "age" better. It's more classic. Gianna's cute but I wouldn't use it with non-Italian surnames as it seems too trendy and "just discovered".
