The branches of my family tree are bending low under the weight of John William people! As far as I know, they all went by Jack.

I read once about a John who started school in England - secondary school presumably - and after a few days came home in a towering rage and demanded of his parents "What did you give me a weird name like John for? Why couldn't I have a normal name like Jason or Justin?"

My late brother was also named John. his middle name was James.

I'm one of those who thinks it is utterly plain, boring, and incrediably overused but keep in mind I've known at least 50 Johns in my lifetime so far. That being said, I don't hate the name or roll my eyes when I see it but I would never use it. I would like to see it paired with a less common name like Donovan (maybe that wasn't the greatest example but you see where I'm going, hopefully).

I like it a lot, have good associations with it and if I had umpteen sons I'd probably use it. John Llewelyn works for me.

I love it. I like John Alexander as a combo.

Strong yes, plain and boring, also yes. I don't mind the sound, but too generic. My brother is named John.

Ooh, John's a difficult one. I'm started to like it myself, completely due to character associations, but part of me is still sick of it. I mean it's not so popular now, but I feel like literally every other guy used to be called John. I do quite like it though. I'm having the same problem with Anna, though I'm less dubious about adding that somehow. As for middles:

I like John a lot. I have a boss named Jonn who is pretty great. I've started to like Jon and Jonn more than John. I would probably use Jonn or John in real life because Jon is pronounced differently to me (Yoon, which I loved when I was younger).

The thing about John is that it can pretty much go with any name, which is kind of a bad thing for me, since they all sound fine so I can never seem to find that one that sticks out enough to make me wanna use it.

I quite like John, although it's not a favourite. I don't like any of the nicknames for it, I can't stand Johnny or Jack.

My son is Jon so I love it :) I almost prefer the John spelling (since that's how most people spell it) but as it is a family name, we stuck with Jon.

I love John. It's one of my favorite names. It's an important name that's often overlooked as boring, yet I've never actually known a boring or ordinary John. I also really just love the way it looks; if it were spelled Jon on its own, I definitely wouldn't like it as much. Johnny and Jack are also A+.

My go-to for years was John Ferdinand or John Paul Ferdinand. Lately I've been opting for John Pascal "JP".
