[Opinions] Lena
What do you think about the name Lena? I met a young woman with this name this week and when I was talking about her my fiancé fell all over himself about what a cool name this was. He even said "when we have a daughter can we call her Lena?" (he had a similar reaction to Max) I think it's a great name when I think about it, I had just never considered it before. Do you think it's too short to stand on its own? Any middle name suggestions? Thanks!

Congratulations on that fiancé. Great taste, in more ways than one. :-)Lena ("LEE-nuh") is a retro gem. It can definitely stand on its own. It's feminine, but spunky too. Love it. Lena Margaret, Lena Katharine and Lena Charlotte are my stock combos.

Thank you. I'm pretty partial to him myself :)

LAY-na? or LEE-na? Either way, I think it could stand on its own. However, you could also use
Alena
Elena
Helena
Kalena
Madalena
Magdalena
Malena
Marilena
Milena
Olena
with the nickname Lena.On a related note: My cousin named her daughter Lina this summer. I think it works. I love that your fiance has such strong feelings about names....two namenerds getting married! :)

It's my nickname, so in my biased opinion, it is a little too short to stand on its own. I've also seen it used as a nickname for Madalena, but never on its own (it probably wouldn't even be allowed here).Lena Jade
Lena Vivian
Lena Katherine
Lena Saoirse
Lena Eve
Lena Soraya
Lena Jessica
Lena Daisy
Lena Morgan
Lena Hester

How are you pronouncing it? I always say LAY-na but I think more people say LEE-na. I like it when it's pronounced LAY-na and it's not too short to stand alone.Lena Anne

Lena Artemis
Lena Chandra
Lena Cynthia
Lena Europa
Lena Miranda
Lena Phoebe

I really like the name Lena and have for a very long time. Not super common here in Australia, especially for children. I'd love to meet a baby Lena. I definitely think Lena can stand as a full name, not a problem. For the record, I love the name Max too!

I like it a lot. When I was younger I had some characters named Lena "Lee-na", now I like Lena as "Leh-na" or "Lay-na". I'd use it. No, it's not too short to stand on its own (says the person with a two syllable name ending in "a" :P)Lena Oriana
Lena Anwen
Lena Magdalena
Lena River
Lena Thalia
Lena Hestia
Lena Willow
Lena Isolde
Lena Rhiannon

How was it pronounced? I don't like it pronounced LEE-na, but I like it pronounced LAY-na. I think it's nice enough on its own.

I prefer LEE-nah, personally.

It's a little boring, in my honest opinion. I used to like it but I grew out out of it. It's pretty, I suppose, but it doesn't impress me. I don't think it's too short to stand on its own.

I love it, especially as a nickname for Magdalena.

I quite like it, I've been thinking about it recently. I don't know if it's the case but my impression is that it's a more common name in the US than it is here in Australia so to me it's very fresh =) I think it can stand on its own.

I find it a little diminutive. I don't dislike it, but it's not complete enough to me. I'd want it to be short for Helena.I also prefer Leda.

I love Lena, and I always have. I would seriously consider it if we had kids. We live in the West, so there would be no fear of "Lena & Ole" jokes. And yes, I think it's pretty and "full" enough to stand on its own.
