Iris needs a middle...
Hello, hello. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have yet to fall in love with a middle name for our little Iris. I would say my naming style leans vintage and slightly offbeat. I loathe trendy names/spellings, and gravitate toward names that are unexpected, yet have a history. Last name begins with a J, and is one syllable. Here's my current list of possibilities: Iris Jane - love the simplicity, but afraid it might sound slightly country-bumpkin? and flow is not ideal with our ln.
Iris Olivia - love the flow, but dislike the popularity of Olivia.
Iris Fiona - love, but we had a cat named Fiona, and I'm not totally sure it's usable.
Iris Amelia - this was one of our first picks, and I'm not sure if I've looked at it too long, or if it really is boring. also seems to run together a bit, for me. also similar to H's ex-wife's name, and my MIL's name, which I'm not nuts about.
Iris Margot - i like it, but with a short ln, a 3+ syllable mn seems to flow a lot better.
Iris Adele - same as above, it seems too short.
Iris Claire - same as above, it seems too short.
Iris Audrey - seems too short, also, but i really love the name Audrey!
Iris Lola - too short again, but I like the unexpected, spunky vibe of Lola.
Iris Luna - same as Lola - flow is not ideal, but I like the vintage Iris combined with a newer-sounding name.
Iris Eliza - H thinks this one runs together. i think it might be my favorite. My stepdaughter's mn is Elizabeth, and my SIL is Elizabeth, is it too close?
Iris Penelope - in theory, I love the name Penelope, but the combo just hasn't wowed me.
Iris Magnolia - this name is just GORGEOUS to me, but i could never use two flower names. it's just too much. :(Any thoughts on these names, or suggestions of other combos would be much appreciated. Names that are off limits: Katherine (or any variant), Blair, Danielle, Meredith, Amy, Edith. Thanks in advance. :)

If not Margot or Magnolia, what about Iris Margaret?
If not Amelia, Iris Emily would be stylish.
If not Eliza, Iris Elspeth would work for me. And so would Iris Fiona - my friend's sister was named after the midwife's dog, so an animal owner needn't be an issue.Other ideas that you might enjoy:
Iris Alexa, or Iris Alexandra
Iris Caroline
Iris Elinor
Iris Felicity
Iris Gillian
Iris Jocelyn
Iris Julia, or Iris Juliet
Iris Louisa
Iris Marianne
Iris Rebecca
Iris Valerie

Iris Amelia and Iris Audrey are my faves. I think I would have to go with Iris Audrey though as it's a little more different and I too love the name Audrey. A few other suggestions would be Iris Abigail, Iris Phoebe, Iris Jemima, Iris Guinevere, Iris Tabitha, Iris Emmeline, Iris Coraline, Iris Coralie, Iris Bethany, Iris Matilda, Iris Miriam, Iris Madeleine and Iris Michaela.

Thanks, everyone. Some great suggestions, but considering the amount of time I've been obsessing over a middle, really nothing I haven't considered. I think my top four right now are:Iris Olivia
Iris Fiona
Iris Eliza
Iris AdeleI sort of love Iris Vivienne, but the pronunciation just doesn't feel natural. It's a gorgeous name, but it's like it's trying too hard or something. Maybe if I had French heritage it'd make more sense. Also like Iris Miranda, but H has vetoed. H loves Iris Caroline, but I just can't get on board. Iris Juno is definitely in the right direction, and I think if there was a name like Juno that was 3 syllables, I'd be sold. I find that J middles don't typically sound the best with our J last name.

Iris Jocasta?
Iris Juventas?
Iris Jocosa?
Iris Junia?
Iris Fiona is so prettily green, and much fresher than the others. I like that one quite a bit.

Iris Jane - sweet but marginal flow
Iris Olivia - l love the flow too. But yeah, Olivia is popular. That doesn't bother me as much in the middle name spot as it does in the first name spot.
Iris Fiona - Yeah, not usable if you had a cat by that name. The flow isn't amazing anything
Iris Amelia - I love this one! Great flow. I don't think it runs into each other too bad.
Iris Margot - Meh, don't love those two together
Iris Adele - Yep, it sounds a bit short.
Iris Claire - I agree. I
Iris Audrey - It is short, but I think it's really nice.
Iris Lola and Iris Luna - short, but they are nice in a fun and unexpected way. Along those lines, how about Iris Juno?
Iris Eliza - Very very nice. This is my second favourite after Iris Amelia. But yes, very close to your family members.
Iris Penelope - Penelope is nice, but yeah, the combo isn't amazing.
Iris Magnolia - too much. How about these
Iris Morgana
Iris Annalies
Iris Fiorenza
Iris Fiodora
Iris Fiorina
Iris Josephine

Iris Audrey seems spunky and pretty nice to me, but I'm not crazy about the flow (as you said, it's a little short). Perhaps Iris Audrea? Other suggestions:Iris Ursula
Iris Noella
Iris Ophelia
Iris Felicia
Iris Tabitha
Iris Octavia
Iris Sabina
Iris Georgina
Iris Philomena
Iris Vivienne
Iris Francesca
Iris Wilhelmina
Iris Bianca
Iris Ethelinda
Iris Safira
Iris ConcordiaI think my favorite of yours is Iris Fiona. I wouldn't worry about the cat connection. The two are lovely together.

Iris Magnolia does sound gorgeous, but yup, maybe too flowery. From your selections I like Iris Eliza and Iris Olivia best - Iris Adele is nice too.
Some other suggestions that aren't flowers and have 3+ syllables:Iris Cecilia / Celia / Cecily
Iris Athena
Iris Francesca
Iris Mariana
Iris Ottilie
Iris Georgina / Georgiana
Iris Leonora
Iris Clementine
Iris Felicity
Iris Miranda
Iris Theodora
Iris Antonia
Iris Victoria
Iris Maia (not enough syllables, but I like it)

Iris is gorgeous!Iris Jane sounds lovely as a combo but doesn't go with a one-syllable J last name. From your list I really like Iris Penelope and Iris Audrey. How about:Iris Persephone (like Penelope but a bit more interesting)
Iris Juliet
Iris Josephine
Iris Magdalene (like Magnolia, but not flowery)
Iris Hermione

I like Iris Olivia- the popularity of Olivia as a first name shouldn't matter. The only middle name stats I remember seeing was a survey that Namenerds used to have for people who went to the site. Marie was in the lead, by a huge margin. Besides, middle names usually are not used much. Iris Amelia is nice, but I wouldn't blame you for taking it off the list because of the possible supposed namesake.Iris Clarissa instead of Iris Claire?
