some ideasSean - without thinking of all the Seans/Shawns/Shauns that I know, I like this name well enough. It's a pleasant sound and I like it better than plain old John. I prefer the Irish spelling btw - Sean. It's more attractive than Shawn or Shaun and it's become such a common spelling that hardly anybody will ever mis-pronounce it, ever.Sean Patrick? That's so stereotypically Irish I actually cringed, no offense. Both are great names but together, it's overdone. I know soooo many Sean Patricks (all with Irish surnames that start with O', ironically, giving them all the same initials lol always found that funny). Some ideas (sticking with the Irish theme, as it seems you like that):Sean Angus (I actually like this one quite a lot, personally)
Sean Ardal
Sean Brennan
Sean Cahal
Sean Calhoun (like this a lot too - Calhoun Sean is even better!).... etc

I think Sean is a very solid name, I was happily surprised when Britney Spear's used it. Sean Patrick is very Irish, but works. I only like this spelling, with or without the accent as the other ones almost look trendy even though most have been around long enough.

I have always liked Sean, but don't care for Shaun, and especially not Shawn, it looks...low-rent to me, I don't know how to explain it. I have a very good friend named Sean Anthony. And I lust for Sean Bean! I *used* to lust for Sean Connery, especially in Bond movies, but he's, what, like 112 now? *LOL* Still handsome, but beyond my acceptable "lust" target age range, KWIM? My DH is older than me, but not by *that* much!Sad, I really like Connor, despite its popularity, and think Sean Connor sounds very nice, but of course there would forever be the Sean Connery association.Perhaps a mn that is *not* so classically Gaelic or stereotypically Scotch/Irish?Sean Abraham
Sean Beauregard
Sean Benedict
Sean Claude
Sean Ezra
Sean Francis
Sean Gabriel
Sean Jared
Sean Leonard
Sean Milo
Sean Samuel
Sean Phineas
Sean Quincy
Sean Tobias

I like the name alright, but I hear it a whole lot, so it seems pretty unremarkable to me. The John of the late 20th c.I prefer it spelled Shawn, but that's probably because whenever I run into a Sean/Shawn/Shaun I think of the three guys named those spellings who were *all* in my sixth grade class... and Shawn was the cute, cool one. Sean is ultra preppy.Sean Patrick is a great combo for that spelling.- chazda

Thanks for the feedback =). Do you think Sean Patrick is a bit too common?

Depends what you mean by "common." It doesn't sound mediocre, if that's what you mean. My image of Sean is that it's very sharp, suave, & preppy, but modest - doesn't "try too hard." Patrick fits with it as a middle name just right - by that I mean, it's not striking. It's predictable because it sounds good.It does seem sort of generically Irish-English-popular-namey. I'm not sure that's any drawback, though - that's just a matter of preference. Of the names I think of as popular, I suppose Sean is one of the cooler-seeming ones. Not Hollywoody, but leaning slightly that direction. Much cooler, and less mediocre, than, say, Tyler or Joshua. My impressions of it might not apply so much in New Zealand, I have no idea! Maybe the name Sean is not popular there, or has some totally different image for NZ'ers. But, for whatever it's worth, that's my view from here.- chazda
