Nope... I just can't see it on a girl. Are people going to call her Griff for short? It's just too inescapably masculine, IMO

I don't think it seems like a good name for a woman. Some names that would seem spunky on a girl can seem dumpy on a woman and I think this is one. It's too similar to the word gruff and to other surnames like Griffith. The iff sound in a feminine name makes me think Tiffany, also. Griffany

Maybe if you spelled it Gryphon. That's much more evocative to me, much less of a gruff surname-name and more about the mythical animal. That would make it seem cool even on a grownup.

I agree with the poster below me, I would prefer it paired with a feminine, almost "precious" middle name. Since it's a word name, I wouldn't pair it with another word name.

I much prefer it on a boy. However, as it's a "word name" it doesn't have a specific gender attached to it, so you could get away with it. But, the middle name ought to be more feminine.
