Re: Swedish-American names. Any suggestions?
in reply to a message by Swede
Are you living in Sweden? I'm Swedish and I've been living here my whole life, and I would stay away from Aina. First of, it strikes me more as Finnish than Swedish. I've never met a Swede with this name - only elder women from Finland. And it's also a slang term for "police" which mostly immigrants use. I do love Stella though, and I have a soft spot for Freya and Signe, too. The boys names are great.Other ideas:Oskar / Oscar

Yes, I live in Sweden and I am also Swedish. One of my grandfather's sisters was called Aina, they lived in Bohuslän, so it is not (only) a Finnish name to me. I didn't know it was slang for police though.Out of your names I like Vilhelm, Elias, Sofia, Alice and Lydia. Many of the other names are "taken" by family or close friends.
