What are you grandmothers’ names and would you honor them?
Mine are Charlotte Marie and Alice Winona. I would use Charlotte, Marie, Marie-Charlotte, Charlotte Marie, Charlotte Mary and Alicia, but mostly for a middle name. I prefer Alexandra to Alice, but Alicia is also beautiful.

Irma and Marie. I don't know their middle names. I would definitely use Irma, but Marie is a little boring.
Mine had a rare name, soooo I'll keep it out for privacy reasons. But, I'd honour her through the name Matilda, from morphing her childhood nickname.
Mine are Liisa Emma Efia and Pirjo Briitta Johanna. I've got my own names (Emma Johanna) from them, so it would be a lovely idea to pass those names to the next generation. I also love Elisabeth and could see me using that to honor my grandma Liisa.
Your grandmothers had beautiful names :)My grandmothers were Charlotte Anne (maternal - nickname was Char, said like Shar) and Rhoda Beatrice (paternal - nickname was Rhodey)My sister gave her oldest the name Cordelia Anne and her youngest the name Charlotte Laurel (nickname Charlie), both after our maternal grandmother (and mother). We knew her very well, she passed fifteen years ago now so never got to meet my sister's kids. Our paternal grandmother died in 1978, years before either of us were born. I wish I could have met her. My parents gave me Rhoda as one of my middle names, after her. I would use both, though obviously I'd never name a kid Charlotte, since my sister did that first. I would use it still as a middle name though. I don't think I'd use Anne, I just find it too boring and it's such a go-to mn. I love Rhoda and Beatrice and would use as a fn or mn. Two of my favorite name combos:Eseld Charlotte Ourania and Zella Rhoda TheodosiaI've always really liked the name Beatrice too, I like the nn Bee or Triss, but it's never made my top 25 before. But definitely one I'd offer up as an option to a potential partner, if we were seriously discussing it.
I love Rhoda! I'm glad you do too, it has a bad rap.Your combos are amazing, wowza.
Yes! I love knowing I'm not the only one who sees its beauty :) Plus she was a fire cracker according to my dad, and a lot like me. He loved her a lot and I get to feel that love through him, since I wasn't lucky enough to meet her.
My grandmothers were Mavis and Elva.I'd love to honor them, though neither name is even remotely attractive to me. It would probably be a middle name... actually, a second middle name, I think.
How interesting that Mavis is making a comeback in the charts but not Elva. I'd think Elva would be more popular, with the Irish background and being close to Elsa!
I mean, Elsa died off too.
Alice Winona is gorgeous!Mine were named Janice Hortense and Carmella Gloria. I don’t care for Janice but love the other three names.
Sarah Anne and Florence BeatriceI have used Anne (which is also my mn) and Beatrice (which was also my mother's name). I don't like Sarah; don't mind Florence at all, but I ran out of daughters.
Mine are Constance Mae and Dorothy Lucille. Dorothy Lucille is a nice combo, but it’s not my style, and I dislike Constance (sorry, Grammy).
Wow those are great names. I love Lucille so much.
My Nana was a Patricia Helen and my Grandma is a Sherry Anne. I would consider using Sherilyn or Patrice as middle names bit not first names. They're a little too dusty for first names at the moment. I've also toyed with the idea of mix and matching mesh-ups of these, like Helena-Anne or something. Again, for the middle.
My top girl's name is Genevieve Marie which are my grandmothers' names.
Lucky to have a Genevieve, I love that name, it's so pretty.
Paula and Juana. I didn't like either of them much or their names, unfortunately. But I would use my mother's grandmother's names, Hipólita and Nicolasa, as middle names.
Alice Winona is fantastic! I love uncommon combos.Mine are Anna Virginia and Arminda. I love the name Anna, and I honestly would use it if this wasn't my grandmother's name. I personally would not use honor names because I'd want the children to feel they have their own identity within the family.
Arminda is so cool and unusual.
Quite unusual for sure, I've never found a single other person named this. My grandmother is Portuguese and I don't believe it's even common there. It's pronounced like ar-MEEN-duh.
Fern Gladys and Phyllis Lorraine I wasn't close to either, and I dislike the names. Especially Lorraine.
Janet Jollie and Yvonne Winifred Iris. I wouldn’t use either as one isn’t a nice person and the other name is too old fashioned but not ready for a reboot yet. I like Iris though and could use it as a middle name.
Was Jollie like Jolly or Jolie? I love finding unusual names like that in the family tree!
It was Jolly.
Mine were Jean Patricia and Adele Elizabeth. If I had managed to get pregnant, I probably would have honoured Jean.
My grandmother's name was Patsy. I absolutely would not use that name even to honor. If her name had been Patricia, I might have considered it if I felt like naming after a family member, but it wasn't.
Adriana and Elizabeth. Coincidentally my name is a different form of Elizabeth. My youngest sister wants to name her daughter Elly after our grandmother and I love that. I’ve been thinking of ways to combine the names Adriana and Elizabeth but I haven’t found anything I truelly love. Maybe Adriella or Beth-Ann or Analise?
Adriana is so lovely.Eliana combines both names tidily! Or.... Adabeth?
Your grandmothers have such lovely names! Alice Winona is so COOL. I'd use Winona in a hot minute.I'm very sentimental and I'd love to honour a relative, but sadly neither of my grandmothers would be appropriate. They were not good people. They were named Martha and Marie Shirley Joan (called Shirley).
Yeah, that's definitely something to consider when doing an honoring name - how was that person considered in their lifetime, and how are they remembered afterward? For each of my sister's kids she went through all the family names and my dad had to be like "NO" to several that belonged to family we never knew but he did and he said they weren't good people. Like his own grandmother, lol.
Yeah, that's always the risk when using family names isn't it! That's why I prefer family names from ancestors who are extremely dead, so I can freely project my ideas onto them. Gotta be at least a hundred years dead to make the cut, the deader the better.
hahaha, yes!
I have my grandmother's name. I won't reuse it.
Jadwiga and Patricia, though the latter went by Wendy. I would happily use Jagoda (means "berry", a traditional diminutive of Jadwiga).
Artemiziya and Yelysaveta (or Yelisaveta). I like both names! I would modernise to Yelyzaveta. But I would not use for child, because it is not my style of name :)Artemiziya is nice. It ryme with my name. I do not know if I would use for child because it is very uncommon and she was named after nationalist, but Artem for boy I would use!
Artemiziya is so close to a big favorite of mine - Artemisia. I'm a fan! They're both lovely though!
