[Opinions] Bartholomew
For no apparent reason I always used to dislike it, but the last few months I've been coming around on it more. I think it is rather handsome and dashing, and makes me think of brown tweed and old books. What are your feelings or impressions of it?I think my favorite nickname for it is Tolly. I think Bart is too tied to Bart Simpson. I also have heard Barley, which I don't really like. What is your favorite nickname for it?Do you like any of these combos? Feel free to suggest some of your own if you feel so inclined, too.

I love Bartholomew. He's so long and gangly. "Tweedy" is just the right word for Bartholomew. I still like the nn Bart, but I can understand the whole Simpson thing being a drag on it. Happily, Tolly is the perfect substitute nn. You've gotten so many great combos. I'll just add my stock: Bartholomew Knox.

I've been slowly warming up to Bartholomew, though I've not tried pairing him. Hadn't considered Tolly as a nickname...definitely increases his interest. From your list, I quite like Bartholomew Henry and Bartholomew Norman. Other ideas:Bartholomew Pierce
Bartholomew Reid
Bartholomew Fox

I just can't get into Bartholomew for some reason, I think it's just too much name for me. Bart is too Bart Simpson and Tolly doesn't do it for me either (it's like a mix of Tilly and trolley).
I do like Bartol and Bartolomej. Bartolo is also nice. Bartholomew Finn

Bartholomew was once my favorite boy name. I still like it a lot. I agree with you about it being handsome and dashing. Tolly is probably the best nn for it. The best combos you listed for it are:Bartolomew Christian
Bartholomew Errol
Bartholomew Ira

Tolly is the ONLY nickname! Hey, I'd forgotten about it. It moves Bartholomew out of the "groan" category, into the "usable." I was thinking it'd have to be Bart or nothing (I actually saw a mention of "Mewmew" as a possible nickname. Barf?).The elbow-patched tweedy pipe-smokin' 19th century image I have is a little strong for my stomach, but yeah, there's more to the name than just that I suppose.I like the combos with Christian, Errol, and Henry.

I have the same impressions of Bartholomew as you do, although the name also reminds me of priests and monks for some reason.I think Tolly is by far the cutest and best nickname for it. I really hate Bart or Barty. Out of your combos, I particularly likeBartholomew Errol
Bartholomew Gethin
Bartholomew Tavish
