William
You can't get any more classic than this. I've fallen for William lately, and I want your honest opinions. I hate every nickname aside from Will (well, Bill has a certain charm, but it's not the same). So, WDYT? What is the best William combo you can come up with? William Taylor popped into my head the other day, and I thought it sounded good.

I like William best of the consistent male classics. It's beautiful and masculine. I love its history and I vacillate on which is my favorite nn, Will or Liam. At the same time, William IS rather boring compared to other fare so I'd probably never use it.Combos:William Alexander -- fave

I love the name William, also with only the nn Will. Because it is so classic I do like William combos to be a little cheeky. I think William Taylor is great! I also like Willam Thomas, Willam Archer, William Jack, William Riley, William August, William Brennan (I know someone with this name but he goes by Bill unfortunately), William Dusty and William Hart. =)

I like William, too. I just found out that it was the number 1 baby boy name for '09 in my home state, which didn't really make me like it less.William Patrick

I looooove William. You're right, it can't get any more classic and I don't think it can get any more handsome, either. It's been my favorite name since I was maybe 14, but I very unfortunately can't use it because it's my brother in-law's name. :( I do really love Will, but I also think it sounds great without a nn too.I find great William combos fairly easy to come by. Some of my favorites:
William Errol - I'm madly in love with this
William Harrison - it does go well with surnamey mns, like your William Taylor combo
William Idris
William Ciaran - I wanted to name my son this in high school

I like it. I know it's common, but it manages not to be boring. A very handsome classic.

I adore William. I honestly do not care on iota about how popular it is- it is just so handsome and strong with a great history. I would definitely consider using it for a future son.William Taylor is nice. It is a really big family name for me and either the first born or second born boy in each generation is generally William Patrick Bolton which I find very handsome.I've been playing around with some William combos myself lately. I'm trying to find the perfect one that isn't too pretentious (I was considering William Aurelius for awhile before shelving it) or too boring (William Alexander is so stately but also far too pedestrian).William Barnabas has struck my fancy but it may be toeing the line of pomposity. William Sinclair is also one I quite like (Sinclair is a family name although not a particularly meaningful one for me personally). William Somerled sounds like some sort of awesome warrior king to me as well. I like it.

Well, it's my son's name. Growing up and as a teenager, I never planned to name a son William and if you had told me then that I would some day, I'd have said you were crazy. It was a very very common name amongst my age group and older. I knew a thousand Bills. (Without exception, every William I knew was called Bill.) I never really thought about the sound of it, whether I liked that or didn't like it. It was just so common that I thought it one of the most boring names ever. Then lo and behold, I meet a guy named William James III, who went by his middle name, and he told me he always wanted to name a son William James IV, and just couldn't see anything else, and I said okay, and now I have a son named William who is called Will.So...the fact that it's now my son's name has made me like it more and I do really like Will. Short, simple, yet strong and masculine. I still think William is pretty boring, however, and I know that if it weren't for my husband wanting to continue a family tradition, I would never have named a son William.

I actually cringed when you said William Taylor. William loses its appeal when its placed with a popular/trendy name imo. Why not pair it with some more classic but still fresh and spunky. Perhaps, William Atticus, William Jude, William Leopold, or something similiar.

I like William Jude. I thought William Taylor sounded presidential, but I guess it's just me. :P
