SSA's list of 2024
The official list from SSA's most popular baby names of 2024 has finally been revealed!
Here are the top 10:
1: Liam. Olivia
2: Noah. Emma
3: Oliver. Amelia (+1)
4: Theodore (+4) & Charlotte (-1)
5: James (-1) Mia (+1)
6: Henry (+2) Sophia (-1)
7: Mateo (-1) Isabella
8: Elijah (-3) Evelyn (+1)
9: Lucas. Ava (-1)
10: William. Sofia (NEW!)
Sofia surprised me. I thought for sure Luna was going to hold on for at least another year. I don't mind it, but I do prefer Sofia so I happily welcome it instead. 🙂
Other surprises to me where Charlotte & Amelia switching places. I thought for sure one of those names was going to switch with Emma, Charlotte mainly. Oliver not going up to #2 & Elijah & Mateo dropping. Mia & Evelyn increasing.
I predict Ava to leave next year or the year after that. I'm not sure why it's dropping so quickly.

The top 10 is unexciting which doesn't surprise me. I am praying on the downfall of Luna.
It probably will. I'm personally praying on the downfall of Harper. Currently at #12, I hope next year it falls by a significant amount and keeps doing so year by year until it completely disappears.
I don't want to look at the list cuz I'm worried I'll see more of my favorite name ideas go up and then I'll just be depressed LOL. I already saw Evangeline went up and I'm worried about seeing anymore haha 🤣 I know it's stupid lol

I'm the same way, honestly. I get sad when my favourite names get popular.
I'm the opposite. I love when I see my favorite names going up. I mean if I want to use a name, I'd use it even it became overwhelmingly common, but I know most people try to avoid that. Maybe I'm just weird. 😅
Evangeline is a gorgeous name!

I wanted to use Evangeline and call her Eva for short since I was 12 years old 🫶🏼 I hope she exists someday. I've always wanted to be a mom and have at least one of each. I'm going to buy my first house next year after I finish grad school if I'm still playing the single game by then I'm going to start contemplating going the single mom route and p*** off my religious family 🤣
It is a kit kit!!! Two kit kits! 😍 boop the snoot for me!!!
Will do! The white & grey one is Lydia & the black one is Josephine "Josie" Her 1st birthday is this Monday and she is still very much kitten sized. 🤣😆 I wonder if she'll just take longer to grow compared to Lydia or be one of those smaller cats.
But anyway, hope to do something for her that day, even if small and she has no idea. 🙂

I'm excited to see Natasha and Nikolai coming back!
I'm very surprised Natasha stuck around. I thought for sure that one was going. Still, it might next year. Who knows.

Wow! I was so wrong about EVERYTHING, lol! I am so, so bad at guessing these. Chloe actually went UP six spots?? And Maeve FELL two spots! And Oliver didn't move at all. Baylor for girls fell 54 spots. And Collins fell 19!
Very interesting to see Ailany (and all the various spellings) storming the charts. What a dark horse. Total surprise. I wonder if it'll stick around. It's definitely not one of my favourite -lani names. But I DID prophesy than -lani names would get more popular! I'm taking the win.

Collins fell??? Yes!!!! 🙌 I haven't really looked at the list past the top 100 but will certainly do so later.
Ailany is certainly a surprise. Shot up like 700 spots and now at #100? No one could have predicted that. It sounds pretty though.

Emma is still there because of it's usage in hispanic communities.
Charlotte is going to have difficulty getting any higher, because it is not really used in Spanish.
Hispanic/latino etc. is the largest people group in the US. Because of this, they are the people whose data is contributing most to these lists.

Yes I definitely notice that the names are becoming distinctly more multicultural with each year. Maybe Camila will eventually become the #1 name for girls.
Congratulations!
I was shocked by that as well, it was the only name I got no points for.

Surprised no one else has commented yet.
I believe this is the first time since the middle Baby Boom years that two different spellings of the same name have both made the top ten. That happened with Deborah and Debra back between 1952 and 1959. So this year the general public will see that Sophia is really #1. :)

Wow!! I wonder if that means Sophia/Sofia will be seen as a “dated” name in a few decades.
