1. What do you think of Mary? Too old? Too boring?--It's a little boring but when you think about it, Mary has a really pretty sound. I actually considered Mary Katherine (Mary Kate) for my eldest child and was recently thinking how pretty Mary Elizabeth (Mary Beth) is. Still, I think it's a little too ordinary for me even though it's not used that often any more, is it? I find it somewhat refreshing.2. Do you like the nn Molly?--I like Molly well enough. I have to be honest and say that it makes me think of a dog's name. In fact, I had a beagle named Molly B when I was a child. Anyway, I do prefer the sound of Mary.3. If someone plans to use only a nn (like Molly), should they just name the child the nn?--I usually prefer the formal name but in some instances when the nn is so different from the original name (Jack, Molly, Sally), I'd just go with the nn.4. Do you like the combo Mary Elizabeth? This is one I'd probably consider using, as it's a family name that's special to me.--See #1 above. If it's a family name, then I'd use it and not worry what people would think. There are other forms of Mary you could use such as Maria, Marisa and Marielle.5. What's a good name for a sister?--My children are Katherine, Victoria and Anna and I happen to think those go perfectly with Mary. Other names: Alexandra, Caroline, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Jane, Julia, Laura, Rebecca, Susanna, Teresa.

1. What do you think of Mary? Too old? Too boring? Way too overused!2. Do you like the nn Molly? Love it. I've considered naming a child Molly.3. If someone plans to use only a nn (like Molly), should they just name the child the nn? Yes. Some nicknames don't work as given names, but Molly does.4. Do you like the combo Mary Elizabeth? This is one I'd probably consider using, as it's a family name that's special to me. - It has a nice ring to it.5. What's a good name for a sister? Catherine or Jane. Thanks in advance!~~she came in through the bathroom window~~

1. I really like the name Mary. I think it is pretty and it ages well. Also it isn't used a lot nowadays, so it would be fresh as well as classic.2. I don't like the nn Molly for Mary. I just don't think it works. I think Mary is just fine on its own, or if I used it I would probably call her Maidie.3. If you want to call her Molly, just call her Molly. It saves confusion all round!4. I like Mary Elizabeth and if its a family name I say go for it! I wouldn't personally use it because it would seem very royal family-ish to me as there were royal siblings Queen Mary I and Queen Elizabeth I and there have been lots of repetition of Mary and Elizabeth together. I am English, though, so that could explain it.5. Not Elizabeth! I think most classic or traditional names go well with Mary, nothing too modern or creative.

1. I love it. It was overly used in the past, but it's an endangered species today. It would be very refreshing to meet a little Mary one day. 2. I like the nn Molly, but I prefer Mae or Mimi.3. In general, I prefer formal names because a person should have the option of a name they can be proud to use professionally. But in your case Molly has been used as a formal name for long enough that I don't think it needs Mary to prop it up. I still prefer Mary to Molly, I just don't think it's a necessity.4. Yes, I like the combination Mary Elizabeth very much. It's very refreshing. The fact that it is also a family combination only adds to it.5. Mary's sister: Charlotte, Caroline, Elsa*, Alice, Cora, Celia, Vivian, Rose / Rosa, Georgina, Nicola, Adele, Celeste, Violet, Anna, Bridget, Cathleen, Nora, Fiona, Clare, Isla, Evelyn, Jacintha, Eloise, Isabelle*.
* Variant of Elizabeth. Not to be used if Elizabeth is the mn for Mary.

It's my niece's name. She goes by Mira, but wishes she could be called Mary. However, if you're going to call the child Molly, name her that. My niece was so confused about being named one thing and going by another that it took her until she was eight to understand her proper name. :-) Mary Elizabeth is nice, but dull.My niece's sister is Sophia. :-)

1. What do you think of Mary? Too old? Too boring?
-- I like it quite a lot. It has a nice, dated vibe that makes it a little off in this day and age. At the same time, no one can consider it odd. So, I like it.2. Do you like the nn Molly?
-- I like Mary better.3. If someone plans to use only a nn (like Molly), should they just name the child the nn?
-- It really depends on the nn. Molly is basically an established name on its own now, so if you plan to call the girl Molly, I say use Molly. But if, say, you wanted to call her Dell, I would make her formal name Adele or Adella. Does that make sense?4. Do you like the combo Mary Elizabeth? This is one I'd probably consider using, as it's a family name that's special to me.
-- It is nice, though boring for my tastes.5. What's a good name for a sister?
-- Helen, Susan, Sandra, Danielle, Tamsin, Georgia, Lily, Audrey, Charlotte, Lydia, Claire, NorahArcadia

I love Mary! My cousin just had a baby girl recently named Mary Catherine. They call her Mary or Mary Kate. I think Mary is ready for a comeback and I think it's such a sweet, pretty name. I have many relatives with this name as well.Molly is very sweet and I think it makes a nice nickname for Mary. I also know a family with a Molly who's real name is Mary. She is about five.Mary Elizabeth is a wonderful name! I love it! :)

My aunt is Mary too and my mom and her sisters are: Julia, Patricia, Margaret and Anne. In other words, Catholic-type first names make great sister names for Mary! :) Any saint's name works!!

1. I usually love classic names, but Mary has just never been a favourite of mine. I adore the names Maria, Marianne, Mrina, and a lot of other names which are related to Mary. Mary just doesn't have that special something I'm looking for in the names I love. It's still nice, though, and definitely not a bad choice for a name.2. I do like the name Molly. It's very cute, though I can't really see why a name as short as Mary should have a nickname derived of it.3. Probably yes. It's different when the actual name is a bit too long for daily use. Mary, however, is short enough already, so I think it would be smarter to just name a child Molly if she's going to go by that anyways. Unless there's a special reason for the use of the name Mary and a preferance to the name Molly.4. Well... I just love the name Elizabeth, Mary is OK, and the flow is good, but I still don't like the name Mary Elizabeth because it's incredibly overused as a combo. I can't think of any feminine combo which is more common than Mary Elizabeth. That's why, instead of thinking of the combo as classic and pretty, I can't help but consider the name overused and worn.5. I'd go for something classic, Jane Austenesque, like Elizabeth, Victoria, Cassandra, Lydia, Catherine, Julia or Louisa.

1. Mary is old, but so not boring. :) It's a classic that can be recycled and reused and never become stale. Perhaps due to a timeless quality or more simply the ability to pair just about any name with Mary and still be able to make a fabulous combo.2. I like the nickname Molly, but I'd really prefer Molly as a separate, independent name. I also like Polly, too, which is a popular nickname for Mary in my family. Honestly, I don't think Mary requires a nickname. It's lovely as is.3. Hmmm, if used as a pet name or term of endearment, I don't see a problem with using something like Molly. However, if Molly is going to be used as a nickname and will be the primary moniker, I think it's best to just go ahead and use Molly.4. If Mary Elizabeth is special to you and a family name as well, then by all means use it. It certainly is a very nice name, however I have to say that I know about seven Mary Elizabeth/Elisabeths. It must be a nice name if it's being widely used. ;)5. For a sister, I'd stick with something along the same line as Mary Elizabeth--classical, yet traditional and timeless. Maybe something like Catherine Alice, Adelaide Margaret, Matilda Jane, Grace Catherine and Celia Rose. _____

1. Not much. Yes. Yes.2. Yes, but I've never heard it used for Mary.3. Perhaps. It is nice to have a formal name and nn though. It's good for weeding out telemarketers when they call.4. It's a good combo though overused.5. I don't know. I'm not into the whole sib set thing.

1. I think it's boring, but then, I know a bunch of elementary school age. Maybe it's just because I'm Catholic, but I honestly don't see why people act like Mary's a forgotten classic--it's alive and well.2. No, I don't. It's way too popular, and it's a shame so many people name their daughters by it when there are much more interesting choices.3. It all depends on your feelings for the names. Do you like both Mary and Molly? If so, then I'd use Molly as a nickname rather than a full name. If you're not a big fan of Mary, Molly's established enough that you could just use that.4. If it's a family name for you, that makes it good in my eyes. If it was just one you'd pulled out of the air as an idea, I would've nixed it. Mary Elizabeth has got to be one of the most boring combos on the face of the planet.5. Something else that's considered classic, I suppose. Personally, I'd pair it with a saint's name, because Mary sounds holy to me. I like Clara, Louisa, Louise, Katharine, Bernadette, Flora, Teresa, Heidi, Bridget, Anne, Diana, Pamela, and Esther with it. Would any of those work?Array

Katharine, or Katherine, is the only one that sounds remotely good with my ln. Although I do love the rest. Actually, Flora sounds okay, but my fn is Laura, so that would sound weird.

1. What do you think of Mary? Too old? Too boring?- I personally find it rather boring and plain, and I don't really care for the sound of it.
2. Do you like the nn Molly?- I used to really like Molly, but for some reason I don't fancy it anymore.
3. If someone plans to use only a nn (like Molly), should they just name the child the nn?
- It really depends on the name. If the nickname can stand on its own for the entirety of the person's life (imagine Georgie on a 35 year old woman), then it might be better to just use the nickname as the legal name.
4. Do you like the combo Mary Elizabeth?- Again, I think it's a bit plain, but since it's a family name, go for it!
5. What's a good name for a sister?
Abigail
Eleanor
Margaret
Ella
Emma
Emily
Ava
Christine
Iris
