What would you name a male Golden Retriever? (m)
The subject line says it all. What would you name a male Golden Retriever? I have a friend who got one and named it Bailey, but it seems like every dog is named Bailey. Is it just me? Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

My little sister has a big yellow lab named Cash (think Johnny). Nicknames include Ca$h Money and Cashew lolFor a Goldie I picture something with a “zee” sound - on either sex. Xena, Zoe, Zora, Zara, Zelda
Zoro, Zak, Zadok, Zephyr, Zeus
Neutral names could be Zippy, Ziggy, Zoomy, Zulu

How about Pal?

I would give it, like, a Trevor or a Sengal. Something exciting!

Trygve.
Or I like that name, and it seems appropriate, anyway. I wouldn't really know without meeting the dog. Maybe he's a Truman / Tru, Peregrine / Perry, Troubadour, Lazarus, Sinjin, Oswald / Oz, Theodoric / Theo, Xerxes, Socrates, Rafiq / Rafi, Sunny, Rene, Abelard, Nimbus, Linden, Claude, Trace, Briggs, Serge, Sage, Easter, Raziel, Zakai, Guy, Dante, Kevin, Walter, Theory, Zeitgeist, Grasshopper, Conrad, etc instead.

I'd choose any human name for him and I'll pick the one that hits different to me. But for now I think I'll name one Aurelien.

Arjun. I've been reading a lot of books featuring Hindu mythology and Arjun is one of my favorite characters. Bailey isn't common aruond here, but there are tons of Thors.

I'd name mine Balak

My neighbors had a golden retriever named Bailey. You're right, it is a common dog name!Maybe I'd name mine Barnum, to put a little twist on things.

Seemed like the most common golden name. For males and females. Back in the nineties anyway, I remember noticing it on every other puppy, then, when I worked at a vet in the bay area. guess it has not changedI might name it a happy word. Like Happy or Jolly. Or Gem, Winsome (Wynn maybe).
If it had to be a people name, maybe Frankie or Gil (Gilbert).

I used to have a dog named Moose.

As a child we had one called Barney.
Albie has been considered lately for a dog here, As has Egon, and my neighbors called theirs Drax the Destroyer. Bailey seems a pretty common dog name, but don't know one personally.

Apollo, I think. Polly for short?

The golden male we had when I was growing up was named Topaz. I've also known males named Copper, Sun Dog, and Bonzo.

Zeno sounds very golden to me and somewhat happy go lucky. Something like Mungo, which is a little derpy, might fit some dog personalities. For a dog with a more serious, stodgy personality, maybe Wystan or Bastian. The knightly imagery of Gawain or Percival (Percy) might be cute.I also like Max. I know it is a typical dog name, but I still like it.

The omnipresent dog name in my life is Dakota / Koda. Bizarre!A grandfatherly name would be cute: Arnold (my maternal grandfather's name), Eugene, Roy, Gerard, Luther, etc.

My landlord has a golden retriever/chow mix named Dakota.

My mother had some neighbors a few years ago who had maybe five or six dogs, and I can't remember what the one female was called. I want to say Rose or Rosie, but I don't think so because the lady's name was Rosemary.
Anyway, the males were named Jackson, Donald, Eugene and Randall.

not just you ...For years, whenever I herd of someone getting a dog, and its name wasn't Bailey or Tucker or Sadie or Lily, I was surprised. My mother and stepfather adopted a golden-doodle last year; his name's Ernie, but they didn't name him that, he was already named when he arrived.Let's see;Boris (cuddly bear-like dog name?)Monster (ironic!)Ringo?Fast Eddie?

...or Bella, or Luna. Those are both very popular dog names.

North Dakota is, once again, odd.I know dogs named Edna, Haven (no joke - it's a show dog), Esme, Betty, Deanna, obscure Norse gods - but none of the common ones. But my relatives' dogs are Sparky, Ruby, Andy, and Sammy.

Yeah, I know dogs and cats with unique names, too. It's just that there are also plenty of top 100 names out there.ETA: I was curious, so I googled popular dog names by state, and Jack and Teddy are apparently the most popular dog names of North Dakota. Or so they claim.

I've never come across a Teddy. I do know a few Jacks and Chloes
Most of the common dog names mentioned I haven't come across in ND. I've heard them in DC, but not here. It's not something special or anything, I just find it odd.
