2023 Jimmy Awards Nominees
The Jimmy Awards are known as the "National High School Musical Theatre Awards" according to their website and are open to new high school graduates from across the United States. I'd assume these kids are around the age of 18, likely born around 2004-2005. WDYT of the first (and, for a few, middle) names of this year's nominees?Feminine

WillPersonally, I was unsurprised by most of these names, considering the age group, but I appreciate the use of Annie, a long time favorite of mine! I was also interested to see two Callistas (of varying spelling), a Tirzah, a Croix, a Qai and a Whit (esp. for a teenager!). Taigh is also very intriguing to me, as I've never seen/heard that name before.

None of these names is surprising, considering the time period in which these students were born.There are a LOT of names here that, to me, are wildly overused, but I do LIKE some of them. Some commentary follows:
Not a huge fan: Alyse (pronunciation here? If it's akin to Alice, then I prefer Alice; Elise? Then I prefer Elise or Elyse); Anna Shea (just the Shea part, also these two names just don't gel to me); Annie (as a given name, no); Ashley (eh); Ava (overdone); Carly (it's fine, just not my kind of name); Fabiola (I like seeing this used! I just don't care for it); Gabbie (fine as nickname); Hailey (just overdone, I think); Kaitlyn (fine but overdone); Katie (fine as nickname); Kayla Rae (I dislike Rae used in this... and most contexts); Kennedy (not my kind of name); Lainey; Lauren (so overused); Layla; Lilly (I dislike variant spellings of this name); Maggie (kind of bleh as a nickname); Makenzie (not a fan); Maya (fine just not my kind of name); Nori Kai (I feel like there's a story here); Paulina; Payton; Samantha (so overused); Samia; Sophi (just go with Sophie? Sophia?); Taigh; Tiffany; Tirzah; Ayden; Breton; Cameron; Charlie; Croix; Denver; Dylan;

Taigh would probably be an Anglicisation (and genderswap) of Tadgh.

Willedit- I'm very surprised that a group of 18 year old theatre kids only had binary genders lol. That's definitely not been my experience with theater even in very small towns!

I was equally surprised, which is why I organized the names based on their individual masculinity/femininity if that makes sense? Def didn't want to assume people's genders, although I may have mis-organized the names themselves here!!
