About nine months after the marriage of her older sister, Sophie discovered that she and her fiancee were three months pregnant, causing the family to speed up the arrangements for their marriage. Both Estella and Sophie were six months pregnant at the time of Sophie's wedding, and started joking about who would give birth first.
Lena and Tristan think that Estella will give birth first because she's the oldest. Siobhan disagreed with her older sister and her twin, saying that she thinks Sophie will be first. Siobhan was right. Sophie gave birth to Philip Leonardo Valerian twelve days before Georgiana Calliope Therese was born. Georgie was two weeks late.
Estella and Byron are overjoyed to be parents. Byron is fantastic when it comes to taking care of Georgie, which the Chief Master Sergeant of the Royal Air Force uses to tease the young Captain: one of the fiercest fighters he's ever seen is the gentlest father he's ever seen. He and Estella can't wait to have more children.
Sophie and Cal are having a more difficult time, as Philip is not the easiest sleeper. And because Cal is usually off at university, Sophie is usually at the palace with her mother, left to care for him alone. When Cal is home, he and Sophie are always at odds, fighting over who should get up and change Philip or whether or not to make public appearances with Philip. It is clear now that Cal simply wished to use his ties to the royal family so that he could get out of manual labor and pursue a more ambitious vocation.
Sophie realizes it and greatly regrets her decisions to marry him. She attends classes at night, when Cal gets home from university himself, to get out of the house and seems to have fallen for her astronomy professor. She tells her family she has prior obligations, and spends several nights a week over the professor's house. Four months after Philip's birth, Sophie informed her lover, Graham Ethan Charles Calloway, that she was pregnant with his child. Valli, who knows of her daughter's dalliance with Graham, talks to him about the situation. She realizes that, though the age difference is great, Graham truly loves Sophie and the only thing he wants is her. Graham wants nothing more than to marry Sophie, and insisted that, should she choose to leave Cal and marry him, he wouldn't want money or a title and he would be willing to sign a prenuptial agreement detailing all of this.
