As I have for the last 4 years, I counted all the names posted in the monthly top 10s to come up with BtN's favorite names. Before we get to the names, I'd like to tell everyone, 2015 was the best poster turn-out we have ever had, and the best turn out since 2009. There were 4969 girls names and 4921 boys names posted this year, meaning on average, 41 people replied to the posts each month. So thanks for posting.
I count similarly to the SSA: Accents do not count (for example, Léo and Leo are counted as one name). If a combo was posted, only the first name was counted, and if a poster could not decide between two or more names, I counted the first one ("James / John, can’t decide" counts for James), and if something was posted that appeared to be a double name, it was counted as a double name. Only 10 names per gender per person were counted, so if anyone ever sneakily posted an 11th, I didn’t count it. So let’s just get to the part we actually care about…For boys, #1 is Arthur, which was #1 last year as well.
However, this year, it was posted more than any other name has ever been in the top 10s. 18% of participating BtNers like Arthur enough to put it in their top ten.For girls, #1 is Clara, which has never even been in the girls top 10 before this year. Last year, it was only posted 21 times; this year it was posted 68 times. Last year’s number 1 was Eleanor. I also went back through all of the data and added in percentages, which might be even more important than the number. Here’s the top 25 for girls and 28 for boys. To get an idea of how many people posted the name each month, divide the number by 12. Girls
1. Clara (68, 1.36%)
2. Helena (51, 1.02%)
3. Rose (48, 0.96%)

This is awesome. You really went above and beyond for this and didn't have to. Thank you.(Although I should point out that in the initial calculations, you have "Juliet" twice - in #16 and #20. Were one of those supposed to be Julia?)In terms of the actual names on the list, I know I've contributed (as first names) to the popularity of:Miriam
Freya
Iris
Juliet
Josephine
Anastasia
Cordelia
Penelope
&
Arthur (didn't we all? lol)
Sebastian
James
Thomas
Edmund
William
Isaac
Malcolm
Nathaniel
Wesley
Dominic
Silas
Tristan (about which I've had a complete reversal, I no longer like it at all, lol)
That's only going by first names. If you've calculated middles, I've also contributed to the BtN popularity of:Rose
Willow
Lily
Frances
Eleanor
Caroline
Zoe
Pearl
Isobel
&
Henry
Alexander
Theodore(That is, if you were counting middle names in your calculations...)Names that made the list that I don't like at all (besides Tristan):Helena (primarily because HEL-ehn-uh is my intuitive pronunciation, and I'm put off by the fact that the name then begins with "Hell"; I love Elena, though)

I'm a little surprised by:Frances, Flora, Lilia, Harriet, Viola Malcolm, Caspian, Tobias, Horatio, HamishI don't think I've seen them discussed in a favorable way that often, but then again I haven't been posting here very long; I've never heard most of them used in real life either.

I made a CAF on the Name Games board based on the November 2015 names people submitted, and based on that I was not surprised to see Arthur as #1 here. Personally, I've participated 8 times (4 in 2008; 1 in 2013; 3 in 2015), so I helped Clara out since that's always been on my list. Didn't realize it was BtN popular tho! Nor that Rose and Iris were that popular here, actually. Names I've submitted for this over the years:1. Clara (68, 1.36%)
7. Miriam (38, 0.76%) - only as a MN when I would list 5 combos per gender, not sure it counts
12. Frances (31, 0.62%)
13. Eleanor (30, 0.60%)
14. Freya (29, 0.58%)
15. Iris (28, 0.56%)
16. Aurora, Juliet (27, 0.54%) - same deal w/ Juliet as Miriam
18. Zoe (25, 0.50%)
19. Margot (24, 0.48%)
21. Jane (22, 0.44%)4. August (58, 1.17%)
10. Leo (45, 0.91%)
17. Tobias (29, 0.59%)
19. Nathaniel (27, 0.55%) - same as Miriam
24. Wesley (22, 0.45%)
25. Asher, Dominic (21, 0.43%)
26. Silas (20, 0.40%)3. Iris [305, 0.88%] (0)
