Oooh, I love both! Eleanor is really pretty but Ellen is so sweet.

I prefer Eleanor or even Eleanora but I tend to like longer girl names. But I think Ellen is a great choice too. It sounds strong and down to earth.

My combo for many years has been Ellen Astrid Caroline.

One of my best friends in school was named Ellen so I'm a bit partial to it cos of that. I think it's a very elegant name but I hate Elle/Ellie type nicknames. For that reason, I choose Eleanor as it's also elegant and has more nn possibilities.

I prefer Ellen.

There was a little girl up the street from me growing up named Ellen Anne (often called both, but also just Ellen) and she was also kind and helpful. She left me with Great feelings towards it.

I don't get Ellen. It's not bad, but I see nothing special about it. It's not ugly, but it's not pretty either. It's not common, but it's not unusual either. It's just there. Just nothing special to me, but quite a few people seem to think that it is.

I like both. I think Eleanor is a little better but Ellen is more versatile (but also has the potential to sound like a "mom name", while Eleanor is too classic to have that problem).

Yeah, I'm right there with you. Ellen has been hitting just the right notes for me lately, too. I do prefer Ellen to Eleanor, but not to the less frequently used spelling Elinor, which sometimes visits my No. 1 spot for females.

I feel like with Ellen, to make it really musical-sounding as a combo, you should choose a middle name with three or four syllables with the tonic stress on the second syllable. Examples:
