John
WDYT of this name? Do you find it dated? Personally I've been loving it lately, I love the meaning and the sound but I find it somewhat plain. Can you make some combos that would make a bit less "common"?
Would you use John as a nn for Jonah or anything else? Or would you go the traditional way and use Jack as a nn?T.I.A.

I love the name John! It's one of my top favorites for a boy. I think it's a very handsome, classic, masculine name that will age well. I, personally, don't find it dated--I think it's a name that has stood the test of time.I don't like Jonah, so that option doesn't get my vote. I think John with the NN Jack is good, but I prefer John on its own. Some middle name suggestions:John Spencer (my personal favorite)
John Samuel
John Michael
John Preston
John William
John Weston
John Alexander
John Carter
John Cooper
John Everett
John Edward
John Frederick
John Charles

John is a fantastic name, and it's one of my favorites. In fact, it is the middle name in a combination (Reuben John) I plan on using for a future son someday. I don't find it dated at all. How about...John Gregory/Gregory John
John Edward/Edward John
John Philip
John Felix/Felix John
John Milo/Milo John
John Benedict/Benedict John
Noah John

John and its translationsI think John is still a strong, substantial name for our times. It will always remind me of the disciple of Jesus. Since then other famous and not-famous people have been named John, so it's a huge namesake name. John will be a popular name forever. For a future son, I've liked the name Xoan Pedro (or Joao Pedro) for a while.

I love the name John. I was just thinking about it, actually. I don't find it boring or dated. To me, it is a very strong, classic name. I personally wouldn't use John as a nn for Jonah. The sounds are too different, and John as a nn would seem forced. My favorite nn for John is Johnny but Jack isn't bad. I've always preferred Jack as a given first name rather than a nn, though.John Alistair
John Avery
John Conrad
John Rayner
John Elias
John Corbin
John Roderick
John Edmond
John Everett

I love the name John, but I'd only use it as a double name, e.g: John Louis, with an unusual middle name, or as a nn for Jonathan / Johnathan.

I find it unbelivably boring. I would prefer Jonathan nn Jon, to John.

John is a plain name, I admit...but it's also a strong name, and a name that you can't really label because it could be anyone. If you want to use Jack as a nn, that's fine, but I'd wait and see if the little guy seemed more like a Jack or a Johnny or a J_ (whatever his middle initial was.) And you can have fun with a middle name for John because it's kind of blank slate...(And I'm not fond of John as a nn for Jonathan...Jonathan is kinda '70s to me.)John Charles
John Wallace
John Alden
John Preston
John Amos

I love the name John, and no, it isn't dated. Dated would be if it was popular eighty years ago and nobody has used it much since. But John has been steadily popular for hundreds of years.I would not usse John as a nn for Jonah! That would be ridiculous, they're two unrelated names. It would be like naming a boy Charles but calling him Chester.
I wouldn't use Jack either, I hate that name.John AnthonyJohn AlexanderJohn AveryJohn BrooksJohn ClaytonJohn VincentJohn MalcolmIn the US, I see only two negative associations with John: First, the john is slang for the bathroom. Second, a john is a prostitute's customer. But the name is in such wide usage that I don't think it would be a problem.

I do find John too plain and it is a filler mn imo. I prefer Jonathan with the nn John.:o)
