Frilly girl names
What are some of your favorite flowery, frilly, over the top girl names? Frilly girl names with masculine nicknames are some of my favorites so I'm always on the look out. Charlotte nn Char/Charlie is still one of my favorites. I also really like Francesca (I think I like Frances a little more though) nn Frankie. And Georgiana nn Georgie is another favorite. In the same vein, there are some frilly names I'm sick to death of. Annabella (or worse, Arabella) makes me roll my eyes and think of poorly written fanfiction. Same goes for Josephine. I used to really like Josephine when I was younger but it just sounds like it's trying too hard. Admittedly, I like it with the nickname Effie but that's the only way I find it likable anymore. Anyways, what are some of your favorites/least favorites? No masculine nicknames necessary, that's just my style :)http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/139762

Late to the topic......and while I wouldn't call it "frilly" I do think it fits the "over the top" category and might be my favorite for the type of nickname you desire...Scholastica "Scotty" / "Scotti"

I kind of like this idea of frilly names with masculine-ish nicknames or just shorter nicknames. I like Charlotte nn Charlie and Georgiana nn Georgie. One of my friends has a daughter, and they named her Andrea but call her Andy. Some that I like...Andromeda "Andy"
Calanthe "Calla"
Demetria "Demi" - I just don't think I could ever actually use this because I don't really want people thinking I named my daughter after Demi Moore or Demi Lovato. I actually just love Demetria and the association with Demeter. But that would never be anyone's first thought.
Parthenia "Thena"
Magnolia "Nola"
Amedea "Ama" or "Day"
Kerensa "Ren" or "Wren"
Serafina "Sera"
Wilhelmina "Willa" or "Minnie"
Lucienne "Lucie"
Calliope "Callie"
Fiammetta "Fia"

I love Georgiana! But I love Arabella too, it doesn't come across as very frilly to me personally (more dark and magical), and I haven't heard it that much here (even in fanfiction lol), but that's just my opinion. Other kind of frilly names I like/love:Florence
Constance
Persephone
Alexandria
Guinevere
Esmeralda
Parthenope
Hermione
Annabeth

Frilly girl names aren't really my thing, but I love Viviana. I could see myself using Jessamine/Jessamyn and Priscilla, too. I've never thought of Charlotte or Josephine as all that frilly. Josephine, in particular, seems sturdy and solid to me.

I have known little girls recently, named Arabella and Annabelle. Before, I always thought Arabella was too frilly, and Annabel was nice. But in real life, it turns out that I think Arabella is a very decent name and doesn't seem overbaked at all - it's about as frilly as Isabella - while Annabelle sounds way too fussy and stuck up.I don't care for Josephine for the same reasons I don't care for Joseph - just personal taste - and also because it feels to me like too much of a suffixed man-name, for me to really get into it. It does not strike me as too frilly, though. Not at all. I like nn Jo, though; even more for Joanna.Charlie and Frankie always made me think of young men from the 1950s, over the top butch - Westerns and hot rods etc, so for me it's a struggle to see them as cute nicknames for girls. I sorta get the appeal - Eddie is one that escaped that stereotyping for me, because my grandmother was called Eddie (Edna).

Now, imagine a Charlotte called Chuck. That's how I get around my dislike for Charlie. The only think worse would be a Charlotte nn Chuckie. Eeep!

My GP nick for Charlotte is Chali (SHAH-lee). To me, dropping the R seems no more phoney-cutesy than changing the SH sound to CH and giving up the gender. But, novel invented nicknames always look so affected on paper. Alas. Such a name would have to be spontaneously fitted to a real person.

I'm not usually into frilly girl names, but these are ones I like that I'd consider frilly:
Amapola
Cantara
Dulcinea
Flordeperla
(apparently I only like frilly Spanish names? lol)
Philippine
Rosalie
Tallulah
Virginia
Zinnia
Zsuzsanna

Dulcinea! I totally suggested this to my husband, poffering the uber-sweet Dulcie as a nickname. He vetoed it, but I still gotta show it some love. Such a pretty and quirky name!Flordeperla is amazing! I totally recommended Flordeliza and Mariposa at some points last year. Plus, Perlas is our tope middle name. So, I have a thing for the Latinate as well. Zsuzsanna is beyond spunky! I could never consider it, but it's great to look at. And, ZsuZsu is a fantabulous nickname.

I'm not crazy about Katharina (although it is wonderfully frilly) but I love love Kit. Wilhemina is not my style but I do like it for some reason. Philippa nn Pippa is so adorable that might go on my list. Thanks!!

Ahh I completely forgot about Theodora which is one of my absolute favorites. I like Theo, Teddy but I think Dora is pretty cute too. I also really like Philomena but I don't like Phil, even for guys. And I looove the nickname Edie, but I like it for Edith. Edelmira is interesting though. Lots of interesting names on here, thanks!
