Lily vs. Rose
Which one is better, and why? What would you use as a middle name? **Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam/Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham**

I think Rose is a better name, partly because it is not a nickname and not just a flower name.
But also because Lily, being a repeated syllable, sounds a little bit cutesy.
Lily's not bad, it's just not better than Rose.Rose MarinaThis question always makes me think of the Christina Rossetti poem that begins

The lily has a smooth stalk,
Will never hurt your hand;
But the rose upon her briar
Is lady of the land.

RoseI like both, but I like Rose better.
I really like short, one syllable middle names. I only realIzed the other day that 4/5 of my kids have a one syllable middle name. Whoops! Should have kept the trend. I like
Audrey Rose
Abigail Rose
Danika Rose
Chloe Rose
Callista Rose
Eliza Rose
Louisa Rose
Hailey Rose
Genevieve Rose

I wouldn't use either of them; Rose makes a better nn (for Rosemary, Rosamond, Rosalie etc, etc) than Lily (for Lilian and Elizabeth).

Rose. Not as common. Ages better than Lily

I prefer Lily, but I would use Lily Rose as a combo.

I think I would prefer Rose. In my opinion, Rose ages a lot better than Lily, since Lily is kind of boring, overused, and I can’t imagine it on a person over 25. Rose is boring but decent at most.

I have a niece named Lily and a niece named Rose. Lilyanna Grace & Rose Elaine. They aren't sisters - Lily's sisters are Brianna, Emma, & Natalie, Rose's siblings are Audrey & Caleb.I think I like Rose a bit better. It has a stronger, sturdier feel to it. Lily feels flimsy, lacking.I love Rose Elaine, I think it's gorgeous. For Lily I'd go with Katherine. I prefer Rosalind (even though it's not related to Rose) over both names.

RoseLily is fine, but it’s a bit too delicate - almost weak and flimsy.Rose is pretty plain, but I prefer it to Lily.

RoseI like Lilly though. Lily just doesn't look "right." Rose is timeless.
