Comments for Adam

Adam is a better alternative to Aiden. Ultimately straight to the point and makes me think of a sensitive and sweet man.

Comments for Alexandra

Alexandra is classy and has influence in every culture because of Alexander the Great. I don't think it needs a nickname but my favorite nickname for Alexandra is actually Sasha, I think that sounds so fun and unique- better than Alex, even though it's a perfectly fine nickname. It's a perfect name for a daughter: multicultural, gorgeous, regal and is going down in popularity. 13/10 will be using: Alexandra Elizabeth, just like Alex Kingston.
Alexandra is gorgeous, I may love Victoria and Elizabeth more but if I had a third kid in the future then her name would be Alexandra. So sophisticated and makes me think of an independent woman.

Comments for Angela

Makes me think of a sweet and innocent child with rosy cheeks but at the same time an elderly grandmother who is kind and wise. It also make me think of a no nonsense woman in her thirties and forties. I am enamored with this name and think it will be perfect and sweet on a child.

Comments for Antonia

A classy but strong name with great history. I find it beautiful and my favorite combination is Antonia Charlotte. I personally don't like the Toni nickname but open to it if my future child likes it. Who knows, it might fit them. I personally am not into nicknames if the name's good enough then nicknames shouldn't be a concern. All that matters is if the whole name is pleasing and Toni isn't that big of a deal breaker for me.

Comments for Astrid

Astrid has this strong but folkloric vibe you don't get with other names. I would love to see Astrid become more popular so people can be comfortable with the name but not too common. What's appealing to the name is that I don't meet that many children with the name. I love the combination Astrid Victoria because it gives a sense of regal that you wouldn't get with a plain middle name like Marie.

Comments for Bridget

Bridget is a beautiful name, the goddess connection is cool because she seems to be an amazing figure. Meaning has great message for a person, especially for a young girl. I quite fancy this name, the combination I personally think is beautiful is Bridget Faith; sounds delightful and airy. It's perfect for someone who cares about Ireland and wants a name that sounds good for all ages. My favorite connection to this name was Bridget Jones, always love those movies and think Renee was amazing in those roles.

Comments for Cairo

Cairo isn't anymore exotic than naming your kid China, India, London and Paris. I think it's a cool name and would consider using it.

Comments for Carys

This is a gorgeous name and I personally love the Kah-riss pronunciation just because Care-riss reminds me of other mundane names like Harris and I love how Kah-riss sounds almost like caress which gives the meaning love and even more intimate sounds. I don't even remember hearing this name but I personally think it's across the board lovely. However I would only use it as a middle name because I think it's true that there are just some names that us people in the states have a hard time with and I would rather have it be used in some part of my future kid name than none at all. Like I would love to use Victoria Carys, I think it flows well together and it gives a unique feel to a rather traditional name. My thing personally always with names for my kids is that if you can hear it and spell it, it is a keeper because going through that can be annoying and cause issues for these kids in every aspect of life, but that's just me.

Comments for Catalina

Truenamenerd, Well a name doesn't have a race. Considering the Spanish community has a mixture of ethnicities and a lot of these names are used in Spain, which is largely European then you shouldn't have an issue. Considering Isabella is a mostly Italian and Spanish name, and most people who use it aren't't necessarily either. It just proves again a name doesn't have a race.

Comments for Charlotte

Charlotte, even though it's popular, shouldn't stop people. Remember people all the times share similar names, they made it work with their own nicknames: Lottie, Charlie, Chuck, Lo, Lola and etc. It shouldn't be if it's in the top 10 that the name isn't usable anymore.
Charlotte, in my opinion, sounds light and delicate. A beautiful classic that works for all last names. I am in love with this name and think it's cool that the latest princess is named Charlotte. It's a name fit for a princess and it's reasonable why it's popular.

Comments for Cherokee

I am personally not offended by the name. I just think long term it's not a wise decision: the same way we just had an ethical debate whether or not this will be a name is what your kid is going to go through overtime as they interact with others. My issue with names is the long term goal of them going through college, getting a house, a job and meeting friends. Unfortunately a lot of people may not invest in your kid with a name like that because it can be an HR issue. Even if it's not their own fault, so I personally just think it's not fair on the kid.

Comments for Christina

Christina is a pretty name and I honestly prefer this spelling over Kristina because this one looks better to me for some reason. I read a lot of people complaining about nicknames for Christina, but Christina is a female version of Christopher so I don't see why someone named Christina can't go by Kit if someone with a name that starts with Christ can also go by Kit. It's a cute alternative and less dated than nicknames like Christie and Tina. I personally would use Kit if I had a Christina, it's a strong name and I feel you don't have to be devout to use this name- honestly biblical names are so common and used that it's hard to avoid and not make that connection with even simple names like Mark.

Comments for David

A solid name that makes me think of a decent guy. Handsome overall but wouldn't be something I would use.

Comments for Dharma

Dharma is a beautiful name with a deep meaning that I feel we can all resonate with.

Comments for Edmund

Edmund is a handsome classic. I loved the name since I was a kid after reading Narnia. It's posh but it embodies to me my favorite character, Edmund, who's complex but at the end of the day a good person who made a mistake. I love the combination Edmund Louis the best, because it sounds distinguished.

Comments for Elizabeth

Elizabeth is my second favorite name, I love Victoria better but at the same time this is my second favorite name. I don't know if it's because of Queen Elizabeth but I just think of bees and this wholesome scene, near a forest and lots of greens. I personally don't like most of the nicknames but it's just a lush name with a beautiful history of women who are strong and were different. The fact that this can be translated in every language in the world is amazing. I'm not sure if the George Orwell comment is true but I haven't met an Elizabeth that I didn't like.

Comments for Gemini

Gemini is a strong name with a presence. I love the nickname Gem or Star for this name, I do feel people can not like the name and be respectful about it. I don't feel it needs a gender addition like Geminia. Gemini is fine by itself. I love how dramatic and passionate it sounds as a name. If names like Lyra and Nova can become popular...why not Gemini. Gemini is more than a zodiac sign, it's part of the stars. Why is it that names like Susan, Elizabeth, Chris and John are still respected but trying out new names is considered out there? Those were new names at one point too and I feel there's nothing about Gemini that can't make it a fun new name. I meet a lot of people who want a fresh name that is not in the top 1,000 but they don't want to take the leap and find a daring name until it becomes the top 100.

Comments for George

I don't care about whether a name is common or not. George reminds me of not only kings (which obviously from my list is from royalty) but also writers and artists. It has this simplistic sound and is just straight to the point with a lot of associations, one of them is Washington who had an amazing character and is one of our greatest presidents. My favorite aspect of this name is no nicknames personally. George Lucas would be his name.

Comments for Georgia

Hushpuppy, convenient that you pick geography related last names, I can give examples how Georgia doesn't have to sound like it's a map: Georgia Taylor, Georgia Darling, Georgia Collins and Georgia Swift. That doesn't sound like states, I think Georgia is a beautiful name and it sounds really sweet. It's a classic and it doesn't or shouldn't matter that it's becoming popular. All that matters is that you like it as a name.

Comments for Georgina

Sounds fancy but also has this country vibe all at once. Makes me think of someone fun. I love how soft and simple this name is, besides Georgia is the only feminine George name I like. I think Georgiana personally is a little bit extra with the second a. I honestly just see someone classy having this name. Like literally a princess or even a queen.

Comments for Heather

I plan on having my daughter being named Heather, well if I have a second girl. Heather is so sexy, cool and modern. I love this name and think it should be used more. I'm sorry but I love the movie Heathers because it is true to the realities in the world. Heathers is one of my favorite movies to be honest. Loved it since I first watched it in high school. I don't see how this is an old lady name, it's refreshing and professional and easy to spell. I do love the connection to Northern Europe. It reminds me of Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, if anything. But I imagine a strong and passionate woman having this name. Heather Audrey, I love that together and I plan on naming my first kid Victoria Lauren. So Victoria and Heather, I know those sound like mean girl names but I guess that's part of why I like them.

Comments for Henry

Handsome and strong.
Henry Charles is the name I want to give my first born son. My great grandfather's name was this and I think it's handsome but strong.

Comments for Holly

Holly is a gorgeous and light sounding name. As cliche as it sounds, you want to name your child to represent their growth. Like a Holly, I imagine a child growing like a tree and becoming a vital and beautiful aspect to their community. It also has a great meaning of protection and warding away negativity. It's a soft and sweet name that can age, doesn't have a nickname, strong meaning in different cultures and it's common enough that people know it without it being strange. What more can a person ask for?

Comments for Isabel

To anonymous user, no I don't think using Elizabeth if your wife's name is Isabel is too much. Most people don't even realize it's a translation of the same name. I honestly think that's a beautiful homage to your wife and shouldn't be that big of a deal. Both are fine names to have and most people really don't critique names on that level to even create that connection. This may have come a little late but if you want to name your daughter Elizabeth than it shouldn't be a problem. I personally thought it would be a nice mother and daughter name.

Comments for James

No one names their child this to be special and cool. It's a common name, I understand people's points about names being considered feminine stop being usable, but that shouldn't stop woman who want to name their daughter James, from doing so. People name their child because that's what feels right, and if it's James then it's James. Some women resonate with James because they want to honor their relative and they aren't guaranteed it's a boy the next time or if there is a next time. In that moment, James felt right even if it's a girl and I don't respect the harsh comments about using it for a girl. It's such a classy name to have such a negative opinion about.

Comments for Jane

Jane is such a fresh name that rolls off of the tongue naturally. It has the potential of being any woman's name and it's the quality that makes the name lovely in my opinion. Especially since it's not heard of as often as a first name. I love it personally and think it should be used often, I would love to meet a baby Jane rather than a baby Abcde or baby Princess, long term wise we need to be considerate that these children need to pursue careers one day.
If you thought Jane was a boring name why did you name your daughter this?

Comments for Julia

Julia is such a classy and beautiful name. It sounds so fun and the fact that it can be translated in multiple languages throughout the world is a huge plus for me, this is also my mother's birth name so this is in consideration.

Comments for Juliette

I love the Juliette spelling because it create some type of distinction from the play. Also I love the actress. When I think of a Juliette I imagine someone who's sweet, fearless and is bold. I think Juliette is a gorgeous name and it is something I imagine someone carrying for their whole lives.

Comments for Kaia

I thought Kaia originally was a female version of Kai. Imagine my shock when learning it's just another version of my name. So to get straight to the point I just imagine someone really chill, like a beach babe type. I love the combination Kaia June, it makes me think of a beautiful and relaxing scene. I love it! It's my number 2 girl's name.

Comments for Laura

Automatically makes me think of Little House in the Big woods which is a good thing, I loved those books as a kid. I am mixed on Laura personally since one of my favorite pairings has a variation of it and I just think it also doesn't go well with the other name. However this is still a classy and elegant name and should still be open. It's a lot better than some of the names used today, I loved that it's used all over in Europe and the meaning is gorgeous.

Comments for Lauren

Lauren is very casual. I have to say despite the modern feel it has the potential to be a long term name that will be respectable to use for older people. I personally love classics and try to veer away from unisex names and think this name is gorgeous and gives a nature feel as well. But wouldn't name my child this, most likely a middle name position.

Comments for Leilani

Gorgeous name and would love to use.

Comments for Lorelei

Lorelei gives me this rustic southern vibe for some reason. I feel the sound of the name carries a cadence and is a gorgeous name. I honestly didn't hear the name till watching Gilmore girls, but I don't think the show should define this name. It was an amazing show when it came out but the name is too old to be connected to the show at this point. I love the nickname Lore, it's fun and reminds me of stories and it's definitely a fresher approach compared to Lori. I love the combination Lorelei Victoria.

Comments for Lyra

Lyra to me is a pretty name. I recently went into astronomy. I just can imagine a cool soft breeze and looking up at the stars. It reminds me of a softness and I think of someone who's curious with this name. My favorite middle name for Lyra is Alexandria, like the library.

Comments for Natalie

I love this name because of Natalie Dormer but there's a sensuality to this name that can't be placed. I love this name dearly and if I ever decided that I want to have a second kid it would be Natalie after Dormer. This name can be perfect for a starlet, girl next door, a career girl or a woman who's older. It ages well and can be used on all types of women.
The beautiful Natalie Dormer, who's famous for her portrayal of Anne Boleyn in Showtimes' Tudor series and have played splendidly in historical roles.

Comments for Nova

I love this name, at first I hated it because for so long my only association was teen mom but then a friend of mine mentioned it to me. Nova is a fun alternative version of Norma and Nora while still being unique. It's a name I can imagine a woman growing up to fit within her life just like a star. I do however only want one child and prefer Victoria personally but if I had a second I would consider this, Nova California would be her name. I feel this name needs a unique middle name to match how special the first name is.

Comments for Olivia

Zolathecat naming a child is very personal. It may not be a unique name but if parents decided they want to name their child Olivia, it's for a reason. It doesn't matter how common the name is. I met three different Olivias and several Johns, it's all about the person. We are a product of our environment, there's a reason why these names are common, because that is what we like.

Comments for Orla 1

I have grown to love this name, I think it's cute and I can imagine a child having it. Orla Rainbow!
I think Orla is an okay name, I would name a pet this but all these comments about it meaning foreskin and Oral, that's how you know you shouldn't use the name. If you want to name your daughter Orla it should be because of the sound or because it's something that impacts you because family had that name and it involves your culture. Minor details about a language that you don't even know or planned on learning shouldn't matter about wither you use that name. That's my issue with people on this website- it's about the name and if your only interest is the meaning that's a problem. Naming a child is supposed to be personal and have something you will be happy about for years to come not on a whim because it sounds exotic or because it has a cool meaning. This is a forever decision that's going to impact your kid and kids are going to bully them regardless but you should feel confident about your choice first and foremost and not care what others think.
Orla McCool, the main character on the show Derry Girl's.

Comments for Penelope

Penelope is such a fun name to say and I think it's awesome. I love Penelope Helen the best with the nickname Penny.

Comments for Phoebe

Phoebe is a gorgeous name to me. I imagine a young woman with a fun personality and a beautiful laugh. However, what I don't like is the Friends reference. I used to love Friends and now I wonder how I even watched so much of the show. If I ever have a daughter I want to name her Phoebe James and call her PJ for short. I think that sounds so sweet together.

Comments for Regina

Regina is a classic name and is gorgeous, goes beautifully as Regina Elizabeth. I love Regina with my favorite daughter name: Victoria, so Victoria and Regina. So elegant! And I love the nicknames Gigi, Queenie and Ginny for the baby. A perfect name in my opinion and I love the mean girl reference.

Comments for Rosamund

Gorgeous and theatrical name that is in the same league as Victoria and Elizabeth, love it so much and the nickname possibility of Rose.

Comments for Rose

A simple classic, what appeals to me is that it doesn't have many nicknames besides Rosie. I am smitten by this name and it's really the first time I've considered it for a first name. It's perfect for a young child.

Comments for Sabrina

Sabrina, sounds so classical and whimsical. It's a name that chimes well and is very crisp like past commenters have pointed out. I do love Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Sabrina is a name I would consider. Victoria Lauren is my ultimate favorite and I think Victoria Lauren & Sabrina Faith sound beautiful. But I also love the name Charlotte.

Comments for Thomas

Thomas is handsome and actually has cute nicknames, my second favorite boy's name and I just feel it's very versatile and carries this elegance that most names don't have.

Comments for Thora

Strong and lively name, I get some parent's issues that if you take the 'a' away you just have Thor but I personally think it's still pretty. Thor was around before and will be around after Marvel. It's strong but at the same time have this classic sound to it.

Comments for Victoria

Victoria Lucas was the pseudonym that my favorite poet, Sylvia Plath used to published her only novel, The Bell Jar. Originally her main character Esther Greenwood was supposed to be named Victoria, but was changed by her editor.
Victoria is a gorgeous name that can translate in different languages. I love that in Spanish, Victoria means literally Victory, it gives it special meaning because I feel as parents to a generation that's curious about traveling the world that we should give them an opportunity early with a name that can translate. That's what I care about specifically but also love the history and how it's connected to so many beautiful things like Victoria Falls. On my laptop I have a painting of a mountain called Mount Saint Victoria that's in France, it's a special name to me. I want to use the middle name Corinth for Victoria: Victoria Corinth, I think it's special and unique and I love the bible quotes in Corinthian.
Kirstyn, I think Ria is a nice nickname. Personally I don't think Victoria needs one, it's perfect on it's own but if I had to pick I am quite fond of Vita myself. Ria is a nice unused nickname for Victoria and it's awesome that you want to honor your mum in that way so I say go for it.
Victoria California Woodhull, was an American woman during the 1800's who advocated for free love and is the first woman to have ever run for US president.
Gorgeous and versatile name, with regal namesakes.
A new year and I still think Victoria is the best name ever. I love the combination Victoria Emily, and don't care how popular this name becomes. Either way I still plan on using it.
Victoria is THE name for me. I already know if I have a daughter that her name will be Victoria. It's just so gorgeous but at the same time has this amazing history while still maintaining a very modern sound. I love Victoria Lauren together personally. There are other pairings but I think that is my favorite. I love the nickname Vicky, even though it doesn't need a nickname. I have to say Vicky is my personal favorite because it sounds fun and spunky.

Comments for Viola

I appreciate Viola Juliette, I think this name still has that old Hollywood glamour. Wither this becomes popular or not, I will still use it. It's my favorite girl's name.
I personally don't care about the Spanish interpretation for Viola. In all reality the translated isn't any different from English: Violada or Violated? Like to be honest if that wasn't the case there's a million names from different cultures that are offensive to Americans and vice versa. So I am not going to pay any mind to those comments because I still think this is a great name. People need to stop obsessing on translations to cultures that they will never learn the language for. Let's be real, most of us are never going to leave our state or country and if we do it's one similar to the ones we grow up in. I feel we stop valuing names because we like them and want to see that for our kid and start becoming obsessed with meanings...no one cares. I feel as long as the name can be pronounced, read, spelled and you can see that for your child to live and use when interacting with other children, it shouldn't be an issue.
Gives me the impression of a mysterious woman with dark eyes and a beautiful smile. I love that there's not much nicknames for this name and love how classic but modern potential this name has. It's older but I can totally see it become vogue one day, Viola Florence, is my favorite pairing. This name has this old Hollywood glamor to it with a richness in sound that I don't hear often.
