Leo
I like the name Leo, but I think it's kind of short and NNish. I don't really like Leonard or Leopold. Are there any other names you would use with it? WDYT of it on its own or as a NN? Combos?

I love Leo just on its own. I don't mind Leonard / Leopold, etc. but I mostly like them because Leo can be a nn. :b And Leonardo is too associated with DiCaprio (or DaVinci, for that matter, lol) for me. So I prefer just Leo, and I think it would sound best with a longer mn, like Leo Sebastian, etc.

Personally I would go with Leo on its own, because I dislike most (all?) of the names that can be shortened into Leo. I've known Leos (full name) my whole life so I guess I don't see as nny as others do, although I can understand why some people may see it as such.

I think I posted this a while back and was debating whether you could use Leo as a nn for Llewelyn ... The meaning is similar *shrug* But John and my mom both detest Llewelyn; they said it sounds like a girl's name because of the -lyn. Oh, well. I tried. I love Leo also :o)

I totally adore Leo and would use it myself if my hubby agreed. I used to think it was a short form of Leonard but it really is one of two elements that comprise that name.mns I've tossed around:Leo Alexander
Leo Christopher
Leo Daniel
Leo Dominic
Leo Gabriel
Leo Jonathan
Leo Timothy
Leo Thomas
Leo WilliamI'm sure a wide variety of mns would work well with Leo.Edited to add a name.

Galileo!I absolutely adore Leo. I love it on it's own, and the other day I started thinking of it as a nickname for Galileo! Of course, I don't know how legitimate Galileo is as a name, or what you are using it for. While I probably wouldn't name a kid Galileo, maybe a character or even a possible middle name!! But Leo can stand on it's own too.

I like it on its own. I don't particularly like the names that it could be feasibly used as a nickname for, either, and I wouldn't want to use one just for the sake of accommodating a nickname. My cousin and her husband have a baby Angus Leo and I like it; it doesn't seem too nicknamey in the middle name place, so I wouldn't think it would for a first name, either.

I love Leo! If my brother and his girlfriend have a son, Leo is definitely going to be a name that they use, they love it! At the moment they are thinking of Eamonn Leo - I love both names, but really prefer the flow of Leo Eamonn (and just like Leo enough in its own right to want it to be used as a first name :-) ). I don't think it needs a full name, its strong enough to stand on its own IMO. I quite like Leonardo, but not Leonard, and Leopold is okay - but both Leonardo and Leopold almost sound like a little much for a child to carry, to me.I also really like the combo Leo Asher - Asher being one of my favourite boys names.Check Out Blinkyou.com for thousands of custom glitters and layouts

I see Leo as a full nameand not nn at all. If it was good enough for the famous Russian author Leo Tolstoy, it is good enough for anyone.I think Tony Blair's youngest son is named just Leo. You could pair Leo with a long mn (Leo Benedict, Leo Benjamin, Leo Christopher, Leo Jonathan, Leo Sebastian etc). The only variant of Leo which I like as much is Leon."But it’s all right now.

Wasn't Tolstoy's first name actually Lev? I'm only bringing this up because it's another possibility that wasn't on the list that Julia linked to, but oddly enough is in the database.

Wow! Thanks. :)I like a lot of these, mostly the longer MN, which I think go better with the short FN. Thanks so much! :)

I did the "Related names" on Leo, and I don't like any of those. Leolin sort of reminds me of violin, or like tacking -lyn on a name as is so popular for girls.Leland I've never really given much thtought to. I would probably dismiss it as a general NMS, but I never thought about it as Leo possibilities, but I see what you mean. Thanks.
