I used to hate Paul, but I quite like it now. It was my great-grandfather's middle name and I think I learned to embrace it knowing it was a family name. That and it's a classic. My great-grandpa was Rudolf Paul, but I doubt you'd be interested in that combo (I like Rudolf anyway).Others that work in the reverse as well:
Paul Adrian
Andrew Paul
Anthony Paul
Benjamin Paul
Christopher Paul
Elias Paul
Paul Felix
Francis Paul
Gregory Paul
Paul Henry
Jonas Paul
Joseph Paul
Paul Jeremy
Lucas Paul
Julian Paul
Paul Julius
Linus Paul
Lucian Paul
Matthew Paul
Paul Maximilian
Paul Nicholas
Sebastian Paul
Thomas Paul
Paul Valentin
Paul Vincent

Paul is one heck of a brilliant name.

RevereI love the fact that it reminds me of Patriot Paul Revere. It's a traditional name and I have Paula in my name list. I am a fan of Paul. Great name for middle or first name.

It's an ok name. I don't really have feelings either way for it. It seems kind of boring to me, though. I'm not sure why I think that.

Love it. I like Paul Malcolm or Colin Paul.

I don't like Paul at all.
WDYT of Albert Paul?
I know a kid named Apollos who goes by Paul.

Yes Paul is interesting. I've known a couple Paul's all in their twenties now. It used to be on my list, but it is really too flavorless for my tastes. My grandmother loves this name, and it is the second middle name of one of my uncles. It is after her grandfather whose real name was Napoléon, but he had always gone by Paul.

I feel Paul is underappreciated today. With more parents preferring exotic names, fewer and fewer babies are being named Paul, resulting in a name that is surprisingly more unique than it is perceived. And it is on the bottom of my short list if I ever have a real son. I may end up using it. Not surprisingly, my husband has nixed my first choice Linus, and surprisingly has shown lukewarm interest towards my second and third choice, Louis and Calvin. Paul is a very common middle name in my family that has never been used as a first name. Well, technically it is my Grandfather's first name, but he goes by his middle name and Paul was originally intended to be his middle name. The only problem I have with Paul is, if my husband and I ever do have a son, I would like his middle name to be either Robert or James since my husband is Robert James. I feel neither middle name works particularly well with Paul, which really seems to sound best with a 3 syllable middle name that has more flair.

I adore Paul! I think it's very strong and masculine and definitely underused. When I was an exchange student in Ireland last year I had two professors named Paul, which made me like it even more. I know one of the Pauls' full name was Patrick Paul, the other one was Paul A (never figured out what the A stood for) maybe Paul Alexander which is a combo I like very much.

I just met a couple of really nice men named Paul lately and that's what made me think of it. I didn't ask their middle names though. I should have! Patrick Paul is pretty cool, although I usually don't like the first and middle names to begin with the same letters, but this one is nice. Paul Alexander is very handsome.

It's classic and it's clear and clean in sound. I like it very much. Historically, it wasn't used much in England until the 1950s/60s, except by Huguenots and Irish Catholics. Many Huguenot refugees had the name. I especially like it with Continental surnames.
It seems to be used more as a mn at present, and seems to be slowly making a comeback after being in the doldrums for a while.
The first Pauls I ever knew were very handsome! The first was Paul James.

Thanks for info and opinion. I hadn't really thought about it historically. It does seem to be more of a middle name at present. I hope it doesn't make too big of a comeback though.

No. Not for me at all.Like I said in the Pauline thread, far too cold and sterile for me. My associations have always been good ones (two uncles) so that has nothing to do with my strongly negative view. It's strange really.I haven't seen it on a young person in years.

Thanks, Paul! I'm glad you like your name. I really like it too. Paul Benjamin and Paul Sebastian and Sebastian Paul have been some of the combos I have been tossing around the most lately. Benjamin is my bf's name and Sebastian is a name I love. I also like:
William Paul
Victor Paul
Hector Paul
Felix Paul
Paul Theodore
Paul Edmund
Paul Casimir does sound nice, but I also hate the meaning of Casimir. Too bad, it sounds really good with Paul. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hmm... I haven't really thought of Stewart before. Paul Stewart has a nice ring to it actually. Benjamin Paul is also really nice but Benjamin is my bf's name, but I really like it. I also love Alexander Paul, but Alex is Ben's cats name lol. I also especially like Ezra Paul, Paul Eliot (this is my preferred spelling), and Paul Raphael. Thanks for the combo suggestions.

Yuck. One of my most hated names of all time. It just makes my skin crawl. It is also just so...hollow. It sounds so bland.
