Names you love but would never give a child
I think the title is pretty self explanatory. What names do you really like, but for some reason or other would never actually give your (hypothetical) child? Some of mine are: Perdita, Seamus, Constance, Lily, Albert, Howard, and Leonora.

This is why I love having pets - I usually give them names I know a human child would detest me for giving them.Currently I have Eglantine and Siegfried, but others in the list include:Algernon
Andromeda
Apollonia
Etheldreda
Horatio
Ichabod
Melpomene
Meriwether (b)
Shadrach
Tiberius
XerxesLuckily there is always hope for middle names. ;)

Gilbert, Wilbur and Gertrude are what come to mind. There are other names I'd never use in my present circumstances but would consider if something changed, like I probably wouldn't use Eugenie in English, but would if I were in a predominantly French area.

I am acquainted with a Cornelius and Titus. I didn't find their names peculiar when we first met, so I consider them usable. Ingrid is lovely, and I have met an Inga, which is similar but not quite as pretty. You might be able to get away with Allegra as a first name since it is easily shortened to Allie if your daughter objected to her full name. I am also a fan of Amadeus but am only brave enough to use it for a middle name.

Most names on my list, I would say, but two that would be especially problematic are Linnet, which actually means "the linen" in Swedish, and Garnet, which means "the yarn" in Swedish...

I've had a love for Olwen for a long time, but I just don't think it would work right now. :)

Eulalie / Eulalia - I like this one a lot but I don't think it's ready for a comeback just yet (and probably won't be for quite some time), so I guess it would be more of a burden than a gift for any bearer...Capucine - I probably would consider using this if I lived in a French-speaking country, but alas, I don't live in a French-speaking country and around here it's just too reminiscent of "cappuccino".Fern / Ferne - I would use this name in a heartbeat - if I lived in an English-speaking country. Which I don't. And unfortunately "fern" is the word for "afar" and "far away" in my mothertongue, while "Ferne" is our word for "distance"...
