[Opinions] What Would you Name Twin Girls / Twin Boys From The "Funky Clunky" Name List?
Piggybacking on New_Chloë / NelleR posts on the Kellgren-Fozard Twins, Augusta and Theodora. I wanted to do a post using one of my favorite name blogs as a reference: British Baby Names. It's not active anymore, but I usually return to it since it has wonderful lists and they are categorized just exactly the way I like it in my little autistic brain. If The owner of the blog is on here, or you know her, cahoots and Acknowledgment. One of my favorite lists on the site is the "Funky Clunky" list. I thought of this exact list when seeing Augusta and Theodora as the twin names. I think "Funky Clunky" is the perfect description of their style. Incidentally, both names were accounted for in the original list itself. Using it as a reference, what combinations might you use for G/G twins or B/B twins using ONLY names from this list? What is the "vibe" you get from the list overall? Do you like "Funky Clunky", or is it not your thing? For me, It really truly depends on the individual names. Some I'm terribly in love with and would use in a heartbeat, and others make me barf. I will add my twin ideas later. The link to the list in question! https://www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2022/06/funky-clunky-names.html?cid=6a014e87d88579970d0278807ba0c7200d#comment-6a014e87d88579970d0278807ba0c7200dPlease rate my "Names I would Use" list & "Backup Favorites" list. Feel free to rate some of my other lists too if you have the time.

I love that blog! Almost all of my favorite names are on that list. Today I would choose…Leopold Clive & Sylvester CedricDorothea Patience & Wilhelmina BlytheOr..
Ambrose & Clement
Ferdinand & Montgomery
Octavian & ValentineAraminta & Minerva
Euphemia & Temperance (oops..I fell in love)
Lavinia & Millicent
I LOVE funky clunky, especially for girls! I've been trying to describe this style, and the descriptor and blog post get it perfectly, thank you!I don't like all of the names on the post, but I like an impressive amount of them.Ethel Sylvia & Opal Patience
Cedric Leopold & Edgar Augustus
Blythe Winifred & Hester Millicent
Lionel Arnold & Virgil Gideon
Walter Cornelius & Sibyl Lavinia
Ethel Sylvia is gorgeous!
I like a lot of the names on the list. Most are fairly unpopular, but definitely not hideous. I don't think all of the names are all that funky, except that they are less common right now and that would make people pause to take them in. I'm not sure how Christine is funky. But, some of the names *are* funky, and I like it!I've actually had quite a few of these on my mind lately, like Cecile, which I was pondering just a few days ago, and I've polled many of them recently as middle names and first names.GG
Freda Bernadette & Zelda CecileGB
Vera Thirza & Quentin PercivalBB
Roland Ambrose & Giles EugeneAmbiguous
Leslie Patience & Augustine MercyThe names are a bit more definitely split along traditional gender lines.

I'm not particularly into Vera and Quinton ordinarily but right as I read that combo I was thinking how very much it came across to me like an old Hollywood sibset from one of the Golden Age movies. Perhaps the two twins of a Starlet in a movie about fading youth 😅😂 idk. It just conjured a very specific image up.
First - thank you!
Second - Your comment reminds me of the old Hollywood movie "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" From IMDB:
A former vaudeville child star torments her paraplegic sister, who eclipsed her as a movie star, in their decaying Hollywood mansion while desperately clinging to hopes of a comeback. It's an amazing movie especially because the two leads had a famous feud and wanted to claw each other's eyes out in real life too. In the movie their names are Jane and Blanche. There's a lot of great quotable lines in the movie, and it hits on the themes you just mentioned.https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056687/fullcredits/#cast?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Oh for sure! I never watched that one but I saw an analysis on it at some point. Some of my favorite YouTube videos to watch are film analysis ones. I love movies. I wanted to minor in film studies for my undergrad degree but my advisor told me not to because it doesn't have enough to do with my field lol. I regret listening to her, but I did take several film classes for various electives. I was thinking whatever happened to Baby Jane too but also Sunset Boulevard if you are familiar with that one. And maybe the actress has some flavors of Auntie Mame. I feel like the twins would be her adolescent or young adult children to represent the different views of Aging actresses in Hollywood. Maybe one of them wants her to retire and move away with them to another part of the country, and maybe one of the other twin represents conforming to the older role standards of things like motherly characters. Idk. What should we name our Starlet in this movie Justina?

I wrote out this whole thing, and then my computer glitched and it got deleted!I've read a few of the books that the movie Auntie Mame is based on. I've never seen Sunset Blvd straight through. The first two actresses that came to mind to play the part of the aging starlet in a modern version of this movie plot were Demi Moore and Julianne Moore, but I'm not sure if they're too old at this point.Regardless of the aging starlet's age, something inspired by Old Hollywood, but with a modern twist. Then I was thinking of Kim Basinger when she played a Veronica Lake inspired character in L.A. Confidential.So... how about Veronica Opal Hayes, with nickname Vera. "Vera, the Jewel of Hollywood" (with a nod to Rita Hayworth), or maybe just Veronica Haze - but maybe that's too close to Veronica Mars. What would you name her?

Oswald "Ozzie" & Edgar "Ed"Jacqueline "Jackie" & Isadora "Iz"
Oh wow, some really excellent names on this list :DG/G: Delyth Clotilde & Hester Elspeth
B/B: Bertram Ambrose & Leopold EdgarThe vibe I get is "vintage bespoke" more than funky or clunky, tbh. There are some absolutely gorgeous names on there that flow beautifully. A "clunky" name to me is something like Roberta for a girl, or Harold for a boy, more old-fashioned than vintage with a harsher sound.Names I consider "clunky" aren't my thing, but I do love the names on this list. The names I chose for my girls aren't there, but they'd be very at home.

If I can tweak a spelling,
Arnold “Arnie” & Franklin “FrankieIf I can’t,
Arnold “Arnie” & Fergus “Gus”Could name lots of girls, in fact I think I’d actually pick Augusta “Auggie” & Theodora “Teddy”, but for the sake of originality:
Agatha “Aggie” & Dorothea “Dot”
Or Augusta “Auggie” & Dorothea “Dot”
Or Agatha “Aggie” & Theodora “Teddy”

Maurice & LionelMaud & Ursula
I think Lionel and Maurice would actually be very handsome twin names. I liked it enough to add it to my twin names Google doc LOL
Whatever you call it, it's a wondrous list! Alvin and Horace; Clarice and Edna. Or, Ambrose and Norman; Honoria and Temperance. With middle names: Alvin Montague and Horace Edgar; Clarice Lavinia and Edna Muriel; Ambrose Florian and Norman Randolph; Honoria Marjorie and Temperance Eudora.
Some of these names, upon reflection, don’t seem to truly fit the bill of “Funky Clunky” in my opinion, like Cedric or Collin, though I love it. All names, even those I genuinely have on the long list will be removed from the exercise if I don’t deem them Funky and Clunky Enough to fit the criteria. I will only pick names I like from the list that I feel absolutely fit the category. G/G
Winifred and Minerva
Bernadette and Isadora
Ursula and Dorothea
Gwendolyn and Thomasina B/B
Archibald and Nigel
Oswald and Cornelius
Virgil and Percival G/B
Nigel and Bernadette
Oswald and Isadora
Algernon and Winifred
Archibald and Clarice
Virgil and Ursula
Percival and Gwendolyn
Cornelius and Minerva
Bertram and Thomasina
I dont think I would describe that list as "funky clunky" (not even sure what that means) but a lot of my favs are on there so I guess that's my style lolEuphemia Clarice
Araminta LucilleCecil Ambrose
Kenneth VirgilHonoria Cecile
Cedric Percival
I feel like more people have been dabbling in two middle names more than I've usually seen previously. On here and in general. Is it getting more popular?
I like three names. I like the idea of someone having two middle names, then each parent gets to have a name to choose each and then the parents agree on a first name. I feel like it's a bit more fair that way.
I don't know. I've done it for years and haven't noticed anything new.
Zelda Rosemary MathildeandValerie Iva Gwendolyn
&
Roderick Ivor Octavianand Sylvester Percival Valentine
I'd use of them and I don't think they're clunky, but others are spot on!
I agree, it depends on the name. I don't think Theodora is funky nor clunky. It's a rather pretty name that sounds fashionable. Augusta on the other hand, that's clunky. But not funky. It's too classical to be funky. It's a little antique, but in good condition, has no funk on it.a few names from the list that I would say are both funky and clunky (and I don't like them):
Myrtle, Walter, Hubert, Eustace, Thirza, Ethel, Beryl, Digby, Archibald, Boris, Horace, Winifred, Zelda, Opal, Patience, Rhoda, Temperance, Herman, Wilbert, Dorcas, Hester, Barbara, Lester, Clotilde, Blanche, Humphrey, Maud, Bernard, Wallace, Prudence, Cuthbert, Queeniesome that are both and I like them: Glynis, Delyth, Clarence, Ursula, Wilburfunky not clunky names (definitely dated, yet chic) I like from the list:
Iva, Ida, Betty, Mavis, Sybil, Sally, Eileen, Peggy, Dora, Trevor, Leslie, Thora, Muriel, Gloria, Howard, Sylvester

Oh I love funky clunky names, they are my JAM! I'm hard pressed to just pick 4 names from the list! I love so many.....If I had to take my husband's taste into account, I'd pick Minerva Muriel & Theodora Clarice because I know those are among his favourite names. For B/B I'd go with Gerald Cedric & Algernon Gregory. His style is even clunkier and funkier than mine. I should make a thread on his fascinating name taste some day. He always surprises me.If I didn't have to contend with anyone else's faves, I'd pick Rosemary Edna Philomena & Lucille Maude Blanche, but again it was soooo tough! Gah! For B/B, I'd choose Ambrose Leopold Ferdinand & Clarence Algernon Norman. Maybe? So hard. Very interesting that Christine and Colin are on that list.... are those names funky and clunky in Britain?
