Here are the top twenty most popular names for boys and girls in the US for 2012, the last year for which data is now available (new list coming out soon!) Please pick the three you most like from each list, boys and girls, and the three you most dislike, and of course feel free to give reasons if you like.BoysJacob

ZoeyI'll throw mine in. Most liked boys: Alexander, Daniel, Joshua. Least liked boys: Mason, Noah, David. Most liked girls: Olivia, Natalie, Sophia. Least liked girls: Madison, Addison, Abigail. I definitely dislike more than I like, especially on the girls list, but even for both, it was harder to narrow the disliked down to three than the liked. Please limit yourself to three most liked and three most disliked, otherwise I feel there's no point to the exercise.

Most liked boys names:
William
Andrew
James
But I also really like Benjamin, David, and Alexander. Most disliked boys names
Jayden - I seriously hate this name with a passion. I don't think I ever heard of it until Britney Spears named her son this.
Aiden - Aidan is better, but I still dislike it. Seriously though, how does a spelling variation trump the standard name in popularity? That would be like Keven being more popular than Kevin!
Liam - it's a nickname. Can't people seriously name their sons William instead?
Also, I dislike Mason. Most liked girls names:
Elizabeth - my name. Classic, regal, and honestly one of my top names in general. Sorry for being biased, though I will say that for much of my childhood I would have preferred a different name. Now I'm totally happy with it!
Charlotte - I've loved Charlotte for ages.
Abigail - yet another classic name.
Runner-ups: Emma, Lily, Sophia, and IsabellaMost disliked girls names:
Madison
Avery - way too masculine. I've known more boys named Avery than girls.
Addison
Too trendy, and I much prefer to see these names on guys.

The top 20 is a bit different in the U.S to where I liveLiked:Jacob
Ethan
JamesLily
Emma
OliviaThe only ones of these I actually like enough to consider would be Lily and Jacob (Jake)Disliked:Joshua
Benjamin
MatthewIsabella
Abigail
MadisonI think the difference between the liked in disliked is that I don't know many babies been born in the last few years so names that haven't been in the top 20 for very long aren't tired to me yet because no one my age has those names. But I had 2 Ben's and 3 Josh's in my class in high school and they are so overdone.

Favorites:
James- James is my dad's name, so I'm quite fond of it. It is high on my own list.
Benjamin- I just love the sound of it, despite the popularity.
Joshua- I've always liked Joshua. It is just so friendly and sweet sounding.Zoey- But I much prefer the Zoe spelling, I strongly dislike the extra -y. Zoe is my favorite name as it honors my favorite women, my grandmother Zoe.
Chloe- I love the sound and look of Chloe despite its popularity.
Emma- I'm reading Emma by Jane Austen. I love Jane Austen and the book makes this name more appealing, (not that Emma is the greatest character ever, but I do find her enjoyable), even though it is extremely popular near me. I'm just so over:
Liam- this is a nickname to me, too cutesy to be a full name
Jayden- no more -ayden name!
Aiden- dittoAvery- I see this as a boys name (even though I don't really like it for a boy).
Addison- Sounds so masculine to me.
Madison- I know so many Maddies that it is just ruined (and ruins the pretty Madeline and Madeleine). -son names sound be for boys.

Boys favorite three:
David - ever since hearing I would have been named David if I was a boy, it has a soft spot in my heart
Joshua - love the look, the sound, and I am quite fond of J names for some reason
Elijah - again, love the look and a the soundLeast favorite:
Liam - William is so classic, I just absolutely hate this because I want William (no shorten version) used more
Aiden - just doesn't sound complete, probably because too many -aiden sounding names out there, all of which I dislike.
Mason - just doesn't sound like a name for a human to me. Maybe a pet, of some sort...
Girls favorite: Abigail, Zoey (prefer Zoe) and OliviaLeast favorites:
Lily (probably due to having a flower for a middle name, but I hate flower names
Ella - sounds stupid to my ears, and I have a spoiled cousin named Ella
Sophia - again, sounds stupid to my ears, and knew a horrible girl with this name

Boys Most FaveNoah - I'm not religious at all and I actually really dislike the biblical story of Noah, but I've liked this name for a long while. I think it's looks nice, sound handsome, and it just overall a very pleasant name.
Benjamin - Some of my favorite 'sounds' are in this name. It's just very, very pleasant to hear and see.
Alexander - Handsome, sophisticated, cool namesakes, it's just great.Boys Lease FaveMatthew - every Matt I've known has been a jerk. Plus I don't like the sound or look of it, or of Matt. Just, blah.
Anthony - Never liked it for some reason, can't say why.
Joseph - known and a lot jerk Josephs tooGirls Most FaveOlivia - just a pretty, pretty name, love the nn Liv
Ava - Been a favorite since I heard it on a girl I went to school with years ago. Just sounds magical for some reason
Charlotte - was my gran's name. Love her, love the name. It's old fashioned in a pretty and elegant way imoGirls Least FaveMadison - not a fan of 'son' girl names generally, plus I know way too many bratty Madisons. The name is so trendy now it just sounds like a joke
Avery - Sounds like the sort of name I'd like but it just comes off pretentious an unpleasant
Addison - ditto Madison, but x1000

Top:Olivia, Emily and Ava. Ava is pretty, even though it is so unbelievably boring.
Alexander, Anthony and Daniel.Bottom:Abigail, Madison, Avery, Addison, Aubrey, Natalie, Chloe and Zoey (I like Zoe, but this spelling is so stupid). I couldn't pick just one.
Mason, Ethan, Liam, Jayden, Michael, Aiden, Matthew, Joshua, Joseph and Andrew. Once again, so many names that I don't like enough to say that I dislike them, I don't even like them that much when I see them on people. If I had to pick just three, Liam, Mason, Michael (and Matthew). I don't consider Jayden or Aiden worth my attention. I can't say I even vaguely -like- any of my list there, though.

I like:Jacob: I'm really sad it's so popular. I love Jake and Jacob.
Benjamin: Not usable for me but I still like it.
Noah: I know this is popular by looking at the stats (obviously) but I've only met one or two.I dislike:Jayden: I hate this name so much that when someone says they like it, I almost think less of them. Like when someone says they like the show Charmed.
Mason: I've met several really, really cool guys with this name but it still just sounds like a job to me.
Daniel: Ew. Preppy frat bro who will drug girls and then work at his father's Fortune 500 company.
Girls:Sophia: This and Sophie I still like but it is starting to get a bit bland.
Zoey: I love this name.
Lily: Love, love.Ava: Stupid princess with no skill set.
Emily: Ugh. All Emilys are evil and must die.
Aubrey: Sooooooooooo ugly. I can't even say why because I love Audrey. That b just ruins it. It's so... curdled milk and stale cereal. Gross.

Boys Like:William -- classic, handsome, nice nn options
Alexander -- ditto, the only male name here I'd probably use
Daniel -- trittoBoys Dislike:Mason -- not into using surnames that are not in one's family tree, also, occupational surname meanings are pretty silly as fns, imo
Jayden -- a nothing, trendy name based on sound
Aiden -- Aidan isn't bad although it's trendy, however, the misspelled version becoming more common truly annoys me (ditto with Zoey / Zoe)Girls Like:Sophia / Sofia -- classic, great meaning, elegant, exotic
Isabella -- ditto
Elizabeth -- a perennial classic, great nn options, the only name I'd use hereGirls Dislike:Emily -- insipid
Madison -- again, the surname thing
Addison -- ditto

like:
Alexander, James, William
Charlotte, Olivia, Emilydo not like:
Aiden - Aidan was a nice name, Aiden is the fake ten-cent dimbo version that's put it out of business
Mason - it's the new Jason, only without the solid history or cool legend or anything appealing whatsoever
Elijah - I dislike most of the trendoid biblical resurrections, this can stand for all of themAubrey - convinced this use on girls originated through some poor confused fool not being able to say Audrey properly
Zoey - stupid stupid spelling of utter stupidity
Mia - whiny blah of a name (what on earth is wrong with Maria? Infinitely nicer)Gosh it was hard to stick to three there! but kudos for making us do it - much more interesting.

Alexander, Andrew, Anthony (would be Aidan but it's spelled Aiden). I like Alexander far more than the others, too.Charlotte, Mia, Sophia, and there is still a point if I add Olivia because those four are the only ones I'd consider using.I really don't like Joseph, Joshua, and ... eh. Those are my least faves. If I have to blacklist another one I pick Liam because it's sort of annoying.I really don't like Aubrey (it should be Audrey! whyyyy), Addison, and ... hm. Lily, I suppose. It's pretty, but it's so weak that I accidentally crushed it when I read the list.I feel fairly neutral towards the majority of these names. Only two of my real faves are on there (Alexander and Charlotte)
Next time, please put links in your post.

I don't like Liam, Jayden or Elijah for boys. I've never liked Liam, it seems very nerdy to me. Jayden is way too trendy. Elijah reminds me of the profit who comes to drink the wine at Passover, so it's too biblical for my tastes.I don't like Sophia, Isabella or Avery for girls. Sophia just reminds me of The Golden Girls. I don't understand it's appeal. Isabella just seems too fancy for me. Avery is a boy's name.Boy's names I like are Noah and Ethan. Noah was one of the names I had down for a long time. The girl name I like is Charlotte. This was my number one for years. Too bad I didn't have a daughter in 2000 when I first started liking this name to get ahead of the popularity. I'd never use it now. I know about 10 baby Charlotte's under the age of 2.

I like Elijah, James, Alexander, Addison, Elizabeth and Emma. All of these are actually on my list except Elizabeth and Emma. Addison isn't actually ranked in England - where I live - so I think that makes a big difference, I'm one of the few that like unisex names and I think "Addie" is a cute nickname.I don't like William, Anthony, Liam, Charlotte, Chloe, and Aubrey. This probably takes people by surprise as their quite "classic" names (perhaps with the exception of Aubrey) but I either don't like the sound of them, have a negative association with them, or they were all popular when I was growing up; or all three in the cases of William and Chloe!

edited because I got cut off somehowMost-liked boys' names: James, Michael, Benjamin
Least liked: Matthew, Liam and JacobMost liked girls' names: Natalie, Sophia and under duress, Olivia.
Least liked girls' names: Emma, Chloe and Charlotte. It was much harder to choose three girls' names I liked from this list. I think I could have done it more easily with more than twenty names to choose from, even just thirty might have helped.
I too found it harder to pick favorite girls' names from the list. The boys' list was much easier, most of the boys' names, even ones I don't like, I could picture them on males of all different ages and races. The girls' names seemed much more of a type to me, overwhelmingly striking me as white, yuppie/suburban under-10 names. Of the three I was able to say I liked, only Natalie is a name I can say I like without reservations. Sophia and especially Olivia I chose more because I didn't outright loathe them than because I really liked them.

Most liked boys:
William - lovely if a bit boring
James - solid. handsome.
Alexander - I probably wouldn't use it but it's nice and grand.Least liked boys (other than the obvious, which have been insulted to death so I'll leave them out):
Michael - bore me to tears
Matthew - bore me to death
Anthony - seems slick. Most liked girls:
Emily - always loved it. Simple, old fashioned.
Elizabeth - one of the most beautiful girls' names of all time.
Emma - I like the -Em sound, what can I sayLeast like girls (aside from the obvious see boys. Btw, Aubrey?! Where the eff did that come from?):
Olivia - I think the sound is really unattractive. It's like litter and liver.
Ava - Supposedly this is a classic, but it strikes me more like a Madison-type name. Kind of grating and tacky.
Lily - Just too precious and soft.

Top 3 boys: Daniel, Michael and Benjamin. They all look and sound nice. Daniel is one of my favourites. With Michael, I would spell the name Mikael.
Worst 3 boys: Joshua, Jayden, Aiden. With Joshua dislike the sound of the name and I don't like the nickname Josh. Jayden and Aiden are just too... how would say it.. Superficial sounding. Top 3 girls: Ella, Lily and Natalie. With Ella I would prefer Elle, but close enough. Lily and Natalie are simply cute and beautiful.
Worst 3 girls: Isabella, Abigail and Addison. Isabella is actually starting to slowly grow on me, but not just yet, I don't like the name Bella, there is something about the letter B. Abigail just doesn't sound or look that nice to me. With Addison I don't like the -son ending. (Madison got out of the list though cuz I still like the nickname Maddy. )

Top three boys (none of the 20 are on my list of favourites):
Benjamin - my husband's and son's middle name
Elijah - don't mind this one at all, although I'd really love Elias
William - with the nn Liam. Top three girls:
Natalie - I've loved Natalie for years and years
Mia - I like it better as a nickname, but it is awfully sweet.
Avery - Although I'd rather use it on a boy, I don't mind it on a girl either.

Boys:-Like: James, Matthew, Alexander. They're just so timeless and I like the nicknames Matt and Alex (Jamie's okay). And I know some great people with these names, so...-Dislike: Joshua, Jayden, Anthony. I don't like how Joshua sounds, Jayden has become a cliché, and Anthony... I don't know. It sounds stuck-up, I guess?Girls:-Like: Ava, Elizabeth, Lily. -Dislike: Charlotte, Addison, Mia. I have bad personal associations with Charlotte and Mia (also, the latter sounds so empty and dull). Addison sounds like a drug.
