Classics that aren't too popular
Could you recommend a few classics that aren't too common? Similar to Henry, William, Thomas etc but not in the top 100. They shouldn't sound too dated (Charles and Richard are classics but sound a bit dated to me) but they shouldn't be rising too quickly either (Eleanor will soon be near the top 100).So far I thought of:ArthurCecily
MatildaI need some more names to add to the list.

I'm assuming you mean the US top 100 (since Matilda and Arthur are in the top 100 in the UK). Everyone has a different idea of what constitutes “classic” but here are some ideas. Alice (142)
Antonia (N/A)
Beatrice / Beatrix (707 / N/A)
Cecelia / Cecilia (655 / 240)
Clara (151)
Cora (204)
Dorothea / Dorothy (N/A / 934)
Edith (771)
Eliza (255)
Flora / Florence (N/A)
Georgia / Georgina / Georgiana (305 / N/A / N/A)
Hazel (211)
Helen / Helena ( 427/ 587)
Ines / Inez (N/A)
Iris (303)
Jane (368)

Josephine (182)
June (470)
Louisa / Louise (N/A)

Nora / Norah (137 / 262)
Philipa / Phillipa (N/A)

Some of these are probably too dated-sounding, and for most I'm not sure about the current popularity. With Matilda, I know that's climbing very fast in popularity. I know at least four young Matildas.

AdelaideMartha and Ruth also came to mind, but those two might be more dated than what you are looking for. How about Marta? I find it less old-fashioned sounding than Martha.Edited to add Miriam and Adelaide.

As I was clicking on your post I was thinking, Martha/Marta! I also agree that Marta is more youthful/fresher sounding than Martha.

Thanks, great list! I like Susannah, Georgia, Beatrice and Rose. I also really love Eve, I totally forgot about her.

I'm surprised Anthea is not more popular - I think it probably passes as a classic
Lavinia is a perennial favourite of mine

I've met two women from England named Anthea. It has a nice meaning. I was actually surprised to meet two of them, I thought it was extremely uncommon. Maybe it's not more common because it sounds too much like Andrea? Maybe some people would think you would just be mispronouncing Andrea or something.

I think Louisa / Louise is probably the truest example of a classic that isn't too popular right now. Out of everything everyone has posted already.

I will never understand why Louisa isn't more common. I kind of understand why Louise isn't used much, it fits in more with names like Lucille and Arlene and will probably not come back in the next 10-20 years. But Louisa is so contemporary sounding and fits right in with Ava, Ella and Olivia.

Totally with you on that.
