~ I don't mind how popular a middle name is. I love Andrew and Clare at the moment. What I don't like are names that are overused as middle names, such as James, Elizabeth and Grace.2. Just answer these with a number(s) or does not matter
If a name is one syllable like Anne, Jane, Rose...recommend a middle name 4 syllables, or 2 middle names (depends on surname)
If the first name is two syllables 1/3/4 syllables for middle name
If the first name is three syllables 1/2 syllables for mn
If the fn is four syllables 2 syllables for mn3. Do you like these names on a girl, boy, or none?
A. Jordan - Girl
B. Jamie - Boy, this is such a popular boy's name here that I can't see it on a female
C. Alexis - Girl now; used to like it on a boy
D. Madison - Neither, loathesome4. Name a name for each generation or decade that is distictivly for that only when you see it.
70s - Karen
80s - Lindsay
90s - Chloe
00s - Ciara5. Would you ever name a child a name that is distictivily out of place with the time. An "old fashioned" name like Florence on a 2008 baby?
Responses: Yes, but it would have to fit somewhat. I wouldn't name a child Bartholomew because it sounds like something out of a Reformation theology handbook. Even if I do think it's cool.

A. Yes
B. Yes but I would put a more unusual middle name
- I say this hestitantley, because it depends on how much I love the name. For example, I love the name Ella, despite it being #1, and would use it in a heartbeat if it wasn't my honourary nieces name. On the other hand, I find Hannah much too popular to consider, even though it's less popular than Ella, KWIM? 2. Just answer these with a number(s) or does not matter
If a name is one syllable like Anne, Jane, Rose...recommend a middle name 2+ syllables
If the first name is two syllables does not matter syllables for middle name
If the first name is three syllables ^ syllables for mn
If the fn is four syllables ^ syllables for mn3. Do you like these names on a girl, boy, or none?
A. Jordan - boy
B. Jamie - boy, as a nn
C. Alexis - I don't like it on either- all I hear is A Lexus. I much prefer Alexa (on a girl, obviously, although I have no objection to Alexis on a boy)
D. Madison - both, only this spelling4. Name a name for each generation or decade that is distictivly for that only when you see it.
- huh? do you mean dated names? Stephanie, Tiffany, Samantha, Jordan, Taylor, the -aydens are all dated to me, to various time periods.5. Would you ever name a child a name that is distictivily out of place with the time. An "old fashioned" name like Florence on a 2008 baby?
- I'd love to meet a baby Florence. I wouldn't hesitate at all to use an old-fashioned name on a kid if I loved it- some of my favourites (Adelaide, Opal, August, Sidney) could be considered old fashioned by some. Dated, on the other hand, is different.

I'll skip that, I do tend to think that Donna & Debbie has had its hey day for now, just think how popular all those vintage names are right now. Violet, Grace, Lillian / Lily, Hannah, Ella, Isabel, Emma, and the list goes on.5. Would you ever name a child a name that is distictivily out of place with the time. An "old fashioned" name like Florence on a 2008 baby.Yes. That's how name come back in style, someone uses a name unheard of for awhile and people remember how much they used to love it or family members associated with that name. For me, Violet is one of those names.

Olivia brings to mind spoiled yuppie brats, so it's totally out for me. I think it's more about associations with me than popularity. 2. Just answer these with a number(s) or does not matter

In modern times it doesn't matter. At my niece's school there are Adelaides, Maudes, Alyoshas, Madisons, Samanthas, Jessicas, Honestys - I can't see any name being totally out of place. I will chose a name that fits my child, period. That said there are no 100% old-fashioned names out there that I can really see myself using. :-D

E. Not at all, too overused. That isn't exactly my POV though. If I only loved that name, and it clearly trumped all my other favorites, I would use it. However, that is never the case with me at all. I really, really love about 50 or so names as first names. I tend to pick the less popular names of these because I feel like (as I explained earlier today) the popular names are going to get used a lot anyway, so I should use some of the less popular names to have more names that I love out there in the world. But I don't have a problem with using a very popular name, a lot of them are really nice and deserve their popularity. It's irritating to have a REALLY popular name though.2. These answers are according to the concept of "flow" and are not hard rules. Also I think departures from these concepts are refreshing and often try to follow these departures. But these are the traditional concepts, and where most "filler" MN's come from

I'm not sure if I'm doing this properly...
2000s - Madison / Aidan
1990s - Taylor, Mackenzie / Tyler
1980s - Jennifer, Jessica, Amanda, Ashley / not sure (Michael, Matthew, Daniel, but I don't think these are distinctively '80s)
1970s - Kimberly / same as 1980s
I'm having a tough time beyond this, maybe because it's beyond my time or maybe because names didn't seem as "distinctively 19--s" until recently.5. Would you ever name a child a name that is distictivily out of place with the time. An "old fashioned" name like Florence on a 2008 baby? Hmm, I'm not sure everyone's perception of distinctively out of place with the time is the same, but personally I would say Agatha, for example, is probably "old fashioned" (and not in a Lily-Ava-Emily way) and I would for sure use it.
