I love Julian! I probably won't use it, because I don't like using the same letter for two children and my first daughter will be Jean after my grandmother.

BtN doesn't mention it, but on a small scale, Julian has always been used for females. It was the English form of both Julianus *and* Juliana, and in medieval times it was one of the commonest girls' names from which modern Gillian is derived.
There was also a female saint, Blessed Julian of Norwich, bearing the name.
So it is every bit as legitimate as a girls' name, *and* has the benefit of being more unusual that way. IN fact, if you go by the "original" gender, it is even more credible when it's female as it's been used on females for longer :-)

I only like Julian on a girl (it has always been unisex since medieval times, but nowadays is rare on females). It works better aesthetically that way imo, and has the benefit of being more unusual as a girls' name.
