Share some of yours? Inspired by the names of one set of my great aunts:Ethel Madeline

Ruth Rowenaborn between 1912 and 1919.I love this trio. So of the time, and to me, great pairings.

I've seen name repetition a fair bit from that era. I've been told it often happens because
1. With a common name like Elizabeth, there may be two different Elizabeths being honored
2. With the first child, they may have been afraid there wouldn't be a chance to use the name if there were no more children that they could give it to, so put it in the middle -- with the second, they wanted a chance to use it more commonly than the middle usually suggests, so they put it in the first spot.

My grandma Muriel "Mim" had sisters Dorothy "Dot", Thelma "Thelly" and Ruth.

I love Ethel, Edna and Ruth together! I see Ethel as a kind of connecting name because it starts with E like Edna and has the TH sound like Ruth. Also, Ruth Rowena is a great combo!My great aunts: Marie

Paternal: Berta (1914) in Germany. Sister to Gertrude (1921). Maternal: Olgia L (1921), Willie Mae (1927), Jannie Bell (1931), & Opal Lee (1935) in Arkansas. Sister to Elsie Verdell (1925). My opa (Eberhard Franz) & grandpa (Francesco) only had brothers.

I don't have many great aunts. Paternal grandfather was an only child, paternal grandmother had one sister (Mary Louise). Maternal grandmother had only a brother, and I don't know anything about my maternal grandfather's family.

I know that she was given Elzene as a middle name in honor of a relative (it was her first name, if I remember correctly), but I don't know the origins or meaning of the name.

A sister of a grandparent.A great-aunt by marriage would be the wife of a grandparent's brother. I didn't include those when I answered.
