I counted up all the data from the top 10 posts this year to find the most popular names on BTN.
I counted similarly to the SSA: Accents don't count, middle names are ignored, hyphenated/double names are separate (ex.
Mary Jane doesn't count toward
Mary), different spellings are separate, and if you couldn't decide between two names for whatever reason, I only counted the first one (you only get 10 'votes' total, so if you posted 11, the last didn't count, or if you posted something like "
Luke /
Lukas" only
Luke counts).
The new number 1 names are
Iris & Theodore
Iris was #2 last year, (
Alice was #1) and
Theodore was #3 last year, following
Henry and
William.
Iris won by a massive 20 points, but
Theodore only beat
Henry by 1 point.
Iris is also the new number 1 name of all time (of all the data, 2008-2012), but
Henry is still number 1 for boys.
Also worth mentioning is
Sylvie in number 2 for girls-- from 2008-2011, it was mentioned a total of 47 times. And then, in this year alone, it was mentioned another 47 times.

I'll post the full 2012 data in attached posts so you can CTRL+F and search for your favorites but as usual, I'll take any questions on the data (things like "Is
Summer more popular in summertime?", "Where did
Waldo rank in 2008?", and "
Mia is my favorite name ever, how does it rank on the all time chart?")
And if you have a spreadsheet reading program (OpenOffice, Excel, etc) and you want this data for yourself, just PM me and tell me what files you want (you can choose from any year 2008-2012 and the all time chart).
