Our masculine tastes are similar!

Mary isn't objectional, I'm just sick of hearing it. From the 1880s through 1937, more than 5% of all girl babies born in the U.S. were named Mary. So... in 1900, for instance, there were 16,705 babies names Mary born, compared to 6,342 names Helen (the #2 name). In previous decades the number of Marys born was about half the 1900 number, and the #2 name had roughly half those births, if not fewer. Then, in 1921 - the highest popularity for Mary - a whopping 73,985 babies were named Mary, compared to 39,087 for #2 Dorothy (which, honestly, is still a whole lot).

To put this in further perspective: Olivia is the #1 name for baby girls in the U.S. right now, and it was used 16,573 last year. That's still too popular for me, personally, but still merely 22% of Mary's popularity in 1921.

Tens of thousands of Marys born every year, for decades... Mary needs a nice, long sleep.

Haha I know. My style is all over the place 🥲 I don't know what's up with my sudden love for the name Kayla. A side character in a book I was reading had this name and it caught my attention. I've always loved the name Kay (as boys name), so this isn't too far off. A while ago it was Stephanie as I'm often mistaken for a Stephanie. Anyway, I'm rambling..

Last month's list was such a mess I didn't even do combos originally! Luckily, I'm far more organized this time around. There were several changes to the feminine list, including the returns of a couple old favorites:

I switched Bennett to be the middle for Nicholas and tried Tobias for Jonathan, and switched Adam to be the middle for Marcus and brought back Edwin for Dominic. For Felicity, I swapped Charlotte for Caroline and then gave Charlotte to Ravenna, and Violet to Rochelle (I think I've finally found the middle for Rochelle). Alice used to have Caroline, but now she has Genevieve.

Gabriella is a name I've wrestled with for a long time. I think both Gabriella and Gabrielle are beautiful, but I can't stand Gabby. I've had Briella on my list for a long time, but now I figure no, I'll go with the original and just push for Bree as a nickname (or... Ella?).

Ten years ago, I'd actually made the Top 10 post! I acknowledged even then that I did a lot of reworking (particularly to the feminine list), and these were the combos:
